Well hello all you tired olld ladies! It sounds like everyone had fun and there were no disasters and all is right with the world. I've been trying to attach pics of this odd little gift R gave me but I haven't had any luck! Going to try again.....

bob, that is the most bizarre thing I have ever seen in my life! it can't be real, can it? I have never heard of anyone drinking coffee in the shower....I've heard of alcoholics drinking booze in the shower, but never coffee! ;)
    merry after christmas everyone..btw!
mpoulsom, my kids pediatrician was a confirmed smoker. So confirmed that he figured out a way to smoke in the shower without getting his cigarette wet!!! People do strange things in the shower, you know?
Ok, ok, ok....I'll let you all off the hook. It's not real, it's a joke. It's the box my gift card came in! Pretty cool, huh?
OLLDBOBBI HOLY COW! R. needs to call me and we need to have a very serious talk. He gave you something you cannot use……you do not have an outlet in the shower :>) and if you do I want you to promise us never to shower in there again. There are so many negatives…the cost of an electrician, the cost to bribe the electrical inspector, the soap in the coffee, where you store the cream, butter and jam, no shelf for the toaster, again more electrical issues, the clean up (crumbs, etc). I know how much you must love this gift, but, sadly, it must be returned. However, R, can bring you a hot steaming cup when you wrap up in your towel and "you pose for the camera, I know he'll love you better" (Steely Dan).
Bobbi about your gift - I don't know what to say. I've never seen one before. One son said it was hedonistic and another said you need a laminated newspaper to go with it! Does it also dispense soap? I'd be worried about washing my mouth out when half asleep in the shower of a morning!
You guys crack me up! hehehehe
    What is hedonistic?
hey creesy....remember me, if you need a mural or anything (piece of artwork) for the grands nursery....

i am back at work....aarrgghhhh. I need about 2 days to sleep and feel normal again. Stayed up late christmas eve (of course), wrapping gifts, etc. Then had to get in the car and "sleep drive" to daughter's, about 30 minutes away. Had to be there before Boo Mappin woke up for her santa claus display downstairs. Poor child came down the stairs at 9am whilst we had been drinking java and eating cinnamon rolls for over an hour waiting. She sits down at the bottom of the stairs with her "B" (blankey), saw all the grands, parents, greatgrands, sat down, leaned over over and closed her eyes! LOL! I felt so sorry for her. It was like a surprise party gone wrong and the guest of honor didn't want to be there! HA! I asked her if she wanted some O.J. and that got her started. Totally ignored her minnie mouse bike, til much later. The "hit" gift was from her other grandmom. It was perfect for her! I pink fuzzy trunk with silver stars all over it containing 4 princess dresses, a tiara, high heeled plastic shoes and a magic wand. She immediately stripped dow to her panties and picked the pink dress to wear for the rest of the day!
About 11am, I hit the road back home to shower and then drive BACK to eat late lunch with the whole fam. Stayed til around 5:30ish and then headed to my grandmother's to take her a gift. Yes, I actuallyl have one grandparent still alive and kicking. She is 93 and still plugging along. Then got back home around 7:30. Passed out on couch around 9 I think, then crawled to bed.
P S…What a sense of humor R has. It's the shower with caffeine he thinks you need because you DO NOT SLEEP ! :>)
well, I love R now! AND I want one to give someone! my father to be exact AND my daughter!!! Both of their bdays in january! Where in the heck did he get it???? I must know! lol
  • 13 years ago
ok bob, I just went online to try and buy these things and they are out of stock everywhere! I may need to buy yours from you! Wanna make some money?? This would be the perfect gift for my daughter!
Hehehehe! I had you guys going, didn't I??? I'm sure the look on my face was priceless when I unwrapped it. I didn't want to hurt his feelings, but I'm thinking what the hell? He LOVES doing stuff like that to me. And that was just one of them, the other one had fuzzy, dusting slippers for Rocky! hahahaha

M, he got it at Bed Bath and Beyond, you MUST do this to your dad and your daughter! It might be a seasonal item, get there as fast as you can!
No problem, M, I can send it to you if you can't find it at BBB. That is IF I didn't fold it into a million pieces. email me with your address!
I was going to ask if your gift was "for real", but I guess it's just a gag box! I'm sure a lot of people think of "combinations" like that .. interesting in theory, but not practical! I'd like to get a bathroom vanity with a built-in magazine rack .. that's pretty practical though.
Hedonism is the pursuit or devotion to pleasure. Chance would be a fine thing. I think Judyg nailed it, you appear to be always on!
astraea, thanks for the idea! R's b-day is in January and he'd love a magazine rack!
    lisa, seriously over-coffee'd!!!
MP, I will! I've been thinking of doing something special for the new Boo. With your first, everyone is so excited. When the second.. or third.. comes along, it's like only the parents and grandparents are excited. New Boo, needs artwork to fix that! I'll get with you after Daughter figures out her nursery theme which will probably be after Feb when they find out whether it's a boy or girl.
well bob, here's the thing. My daughter wanted a new coffee maker and she is planning on remodeling her downstairs bathroom (tub/shower), sooo this would be perfecto. And I adore playing tricks on her. April Fools is my fave day with her. She always falls for my tricks! LOL!
well i just jutted out and went to bank to make deposit and got a salad from Zaxby's. I HAD to have a salad. My body is WAAYYYY over-sugared from the holidays. My head was starting to pound this morning when I got up. I think it's all the sugar I've been consuming. I am one who rarely gets a headache. Usually only if I'm getting sick. But I seriously think it's the sugar.
Creesy...I'm not liking our weather right now woman! This is yuck! Did I see something about tornados this morn on the news????? Rain, wind, tornados????
Mp, that's what they called for this morning, but we're in the clear now. Everything's moved north and this nasty wind is ushering in coooolllld weather. I didn't have to take down my outside Christmas decorations. Just picked them up out of the yard..*L*
You know, sometimes people get headaches from atmospheric changes as well. I'm sure the barometric pressure is ... dropping?... with the cold front behind this wind.
bobbi, my dish towels have had it. I've bleached the heck out of them, but they finally bit the dust. I was throwing them in Cutie Pie's car wash stash and it brought back one of the stories my grandmother would tell me…about a Rag Man. Looked it up and found this from your old neck of the woods:

    judyg...like that recycling story!
creesy...there are freezing winds here right now! It's killing me! I'm afraid to go home tonight. The gingerbread house decorations may be blown off onto the ground as well!
I don't mind cold, but cold and wind...NOT!
It finally started raining here & is windy. I'm tired of these "sidedways winds"! They blow right at or along the windows, and the windows get incredibly dirty this way.
judy! Thank you so much! I just ordered a gift for R's birthday from gadgetsandgear, it's too perfect! You have remarkable timing, young lady!
MP, I'm with you. I can deal with cold and even enjoy it, but this wind does me in. We just got back from town and I swear it's picking up speed.
    It's freezing here! 50 degrees and mega-wind!
Morning all. Hate wind but I could do with some right now. It might blow away a new pet we acquired this morning - a 1 1/2 metre tree snake. He is very comfortable lying in the middle of our courtyard. Rang our local animal people who said to just leave him and he will probably toddle off back home in an hour ot two. Yeah, right, I want to know where he calls home.

Oh, oh astraea, if you're getting it now we'll have it in the morning. Just came home from visiting our friends' kids and their babies. One couple from Boonton, NJ? Near you?

bobbi, "young lady" is exactly what I am. What did you get R ? I am getting Cutie Pie the frozen boobs.

roo, or maybe I'll get him that snake. Tall, strong, works out and is scared sh*tless about snakes.

mpoulsom, cold and wind are a very bad combo. You must have a warming drink :>) when you get home. I think vodka is the choice if you have had too much sugar recently.

crees, if you get a headache it is not the weather. Santa brought it.

lisa, Cutie Pie could use a laminated newspaper. He reads in the hot tub with one of those miner's lights strapped to his head. Let's just say that the honeymoon is over.
Well the good news is they areh't venomous. The bad news is there isn't enough there for dinner!

I'd want to know where he calls home, too!
Of course he just slithered off while our backs were turned. Don't think I will be going into BH's storeroom for a while. Checked the magnolia tree too, don't want him dropping in if I sit under it. You can keep them as pets, but I only like the fluffy variety. BH was going to try to catch it and put it down in the bush, but they give off a really obnoxious smell if they feel threatened.

Talking magazine racks - search 'magazine racks' on Houzz - there are only 17,396 photos, but lots of great ideas.
    Hi everyone & Merry Christmas.

I thought this group had folded up. Just found out from "roo" that you're all still here. Didn't know the talk fest had re-started! Feeling dumb. I'll have to read old posts.

Yesterday I spread hand cream on my toothbrush, though, so I think I *do* belong here.
olldj22, I was asking about you a day or two ago and wondered where you have been? See you in the threads (always have great suggestions and ideas), but you need to check in once in a while.

We did "fold" over the holidays, but, miraculously, still were able to t…..y……p……e…zzzzzzzzzzz, snore and burp. Oh, bobbi, did very few zzzzzzzzz's.

    Merry Christmas.
judyg & all: I'll be checking daily to see what you are all doing. Good to be back!
Hi again J22 glad you found us ok. I'm still laughing at the 2 odds.

So for the benefit of the rest of you, we were the only two commenting on a design dilemma - the lady misread our titles and called us the 2 odds. I think she nailed it.!!!

I am being very naughty today, have started a big cleanup but have the concentration of a fruit fly and keep coming back here to check out what is going on. Still haven't found where the snake went, BH lives in a tent but is under a death threat if he dares to leave one door open.
I want to read this dilemma. Two odds? Share.

astraea, your NJ weather just hit Cape Cod. Thanks sooooo much.
Maybe we should change to oddroo and oddj22 etc. ;)
I think some people might find that just a bit TOOOOOOOO tempting!!!
Houzz is having one of its hissy fits and is sending me posts all over the place. Judy, your's just came up, what are you on!!!! Sounds like you and cutie pie had an interesting (?) Christmas - by the sound of it you are still having it.. CP sounds such a M-A-L-E - a miner's light! Too funny and I can just hear him convincing everyone that that is perfectly normal and doesn't everybody?? I think he might be related to BH.
I guess you are all making zzzzzzzzzzzz's about now, (including judy if she is down from the chandelier). Astraea, you asked the other day about a computer programme for doing something I think to do with your bathroom - is Photoshop at all suitable for what you want? I was just on a design dilemma and a guy did the most amazing things with another guy's room photos, changing colours, adding in rugs, artwork, it was my kind of planning. Another New Year resolution - go learn Photoshop.
Roo – I actually thought the snake was a holiday present .. not just a natural visitor! Very colorful .. I kind of like snakes .. but that one’s pretty long!

Judy – Hey .. that weather didn’t start in NJ .. it’s not our fault (LOL)! Boonton isn’t that far from where I used to live in north Jersey, but is about 80 miles away from where I am on the shore .. know it well. These wind storms at night are bad, because you have no clue how bad it is, and what kind of damage you’ll find in the morning! I think it finally stopped raining here, but isn’t light enough to see yet.

I checked out the 2 programs someone suggested, as far as doing a 3-D model of the bathroom. I really dislike when programs are all icon-driven, and usually not intuitive, so it takes days to remember what icon does what! Look at all the commands in Word .. and most are words (insert, page layout) or very obvious icons. I watched a YouTube video showing how one works, but it’s not the way a layperson would design. I don’t want to create a box & drag the corners until I’m familiar with the measurements; why can’t I click on “box” icon, and put in width & depth?! If I were going to use the program a lot, it might be worth learning, but not otherwise.

Not sure that’s what you’re talking about posts all over the place, but I responded to a designer’s complaint yesterday, about negative comments. Then today she clarified that they were more personal. I don’t know why people have to do that, but I did say it’s the downside of free speech on the internet.
I reckoned the snake was around 1 1/4 m at least but then I read they mostly grow to 1.2m, so we definitely had a full sized one. I rang our WIRES service, (which is actually just up the road from us and I donate linen to them), for information before we searched the web and they told me if I had any problems with it to call back and they would get a pro to come and remove it, but it would cost us. Once we knew it was harmless BH was going to put it in a box and take it down the road to the bush and let it go, but of course the snake solved the whole problem by wriggling off. Thought it nice though the WIRES people rang back this afternoon to ensure all was well. I wish I could be a volunteer carer - usually it is caring for baby possums or joeys whose mothers have been hit by cars - but I just don't have the facilities here. BH just came home, he has been to the football with the Germans, and our resident bandicoot is running around the front lawn. He is so cute, about the size of a rabbit except he does nothing but dig holes everywhere. Gotta love wildlife to live here.

When I said about posts all over the place, I seem to have days that I get notified of posts hours after they have been posted. The other week I was getting them up to 21 hours later, it was really weird. That happened to day with one of judy's posts, I got it 6 hours later, yet others had come through in the meantime. I notice on days like that it takes ages for me to lodge a post too.

I had someone have a shot at me today for making negative comments when all I said I was disappointed about something. Free speech is getting harder and harder.

Better get to bed, I'm being taken out for a birthday brunch tomorrow. Everyone is going away on the weekend so it is the only time we can all get together.
I love wildlife, and the programs on Animal Planet, showing people who rescue them when they’re injured or orphaned. I’ve seen ones in Australia with the various types of roos, wallabies, and wombats. Maybe it’s a good thing we don’t have “smell-avision”!

I wonder if your possums are the same as ours; I have one that eats the food I put out for the raccoons. It’s so built up here, I’m happy to see what little wildlife we do have. This past year, the resident raccoon had 3 babies. When they were little, they’d like me touch them, while they were eating. Now they come out on “raccoon time” .. only at night in the dark.

This is the downside of “putting yourself out there” on the internet; as many people like whatever you’ve done, just as many won’t. You’ve just got to have a thick skin. The only thing I don’t like, is when people start projecting what someone "must be" like as a person, because of their design aesthetic, or whatever is mentioned in the article.
From a comment made here once by someone who has been here and seen our possums, no, ours are much cuter.

    http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2006/09/07/2041855.htm

Actually I think it came about from a comment Bobbi made one time on an ideas book about creating attic space and ideas for it. It was before I 'knew' her and she asked what you could do with crawl space. I replied I would ask my possums as they had a ball in the roof every night and the conversation ensued from there. I have tried to tame a couple of ours but they then seem to disappear. They are very quick to bite so I don't push my luck.

I'm fast picking the people who seem out to start words flying, and I'm just walking away from it. Wouldn't matter what you say they would still make something ugly out of it. One of the best things about old age, you learn what is really important.
Yes, yours are cuter. Ours have a long, bare tail, that makes it look like a very large rat .. unfortunately. Critters in the house can cause a lot of damage .. that's my only complaint about them. When I lived in north Jersey, a raccoon either got in thru a hole in the roof, or made the hole .. but one night it went running thru the attic, and then a panel of the hung ceiling in the sun room fell .. and you could see that striped tail hanging down! I kept nailing wire mesh over the hole every day, until the raccoon decided it wasn't a good place to live, and then I had the hole fixed.

You're right about walking away, but I think that Houzz ought to "orient" homeowners & designers whose work they feature, that there's going to be "open discussion", and it shouldn't be stiffled unless it gets personal.
Our possums love to get in the roof and wander about at night sounding like they are wearing army boots. I was amazed that they never actually came through the ceiling. We have put mesh on all the corners of our house and that seems to be keeping them out. They can also make the ceiling space pongy with their droppings and bring lice.
I know out possums have tails from which they're supposed to be able to hang (I think), but they have short legs, and barely make it up the stairs .. I've never seen them climb a tree!
