Tree Selection

Hi All,

Apologies for a similar post to some of the previous ones - but despite all the reading, I'm still a little stumped (pardon the pun).

My wife and I moved to the Gold Coast from Sydney about 2 years ago and we are finally just getting the garden under control. We have been doing extensive renovations and we currently have no garden on the front and will be starting to landscape this from scratch soon (a daunting prospect!)

We have a 1 year old son, and we would really like to plant a tree somewhere in our garden that will grow with him, giving him something to climb and sit under and play in the shade. Something that won't kill the lawn, block out all the sun or cause problems with it's roots would also be good (we don't ask for much!).

We really have no idea what to plant for the Gold Coast climate and soil (heavy clay - quite acidic) and where is a good spot to plant (front, back, in middle of lawn, on a boundary). Can anyone offer any tips or suggestions?

Many Thanks in advance

Steve
