Shrub recommendations please -difficult spot

Is anyone able to suggest a shrub for a difficult spot? Faces west but shaded by a tall tree on it's south side. Winter - shade all day, about 1 hour of afternoon sun. Summer, shade all day, up to 2-3 hours of powerful western sun at mid summer. Preferably something with colour (if anything could possibly flower in this situation!) thanks! In Sydney

Yes, I know that area. Brunsfelsia might be ok, it's fairly tough. If you could provide a bit of mottled afternoon summer shade, hydrangea. I'd also check out the soil, ensure that it drains well and has nutrients, I'd add some blood and bone at planting and maybe a little dolomite lime.
