I posted a similar link a few weeks ago asking for paint color suggestions and now I can't find it! I am having a difficult time picturing what my house will look like with proper colors/front porch/portico/landscaping.

Some quick questions. What region are you in? What's your interior style? Midcentury modern? Traditional? Country?

I live in the South. We have completely gutted and renovated the interior. It is very open and airy now with grays, tans, and whites. I guess you would say it is traditional? Definitely not midcentury or modern.

The house was in TERRIBLE condition when we bought it. Here is a before/after of our laundry room.

would you consider painting the brick?

My husband is adamantly opposed to painting the brick but I think if he could visualize it and it looked nice he would paint it. I have no problem painting the brick.

Couldn't get a whole picture because of the door... But here is another before/after of our guest bathroom. I am ready to love the outside as much as we love the inside!

It looks like your house is colonial, and the red bricks fit perfectly. Black shutters would look wonderful.

You could paint the brick white or white wash, but it know houzzers try to avoid painting brick due to all the maintenance.

You have a very nice red brick, on my screen anyway. In many of the photos of red brick homes in Houzz, instead of the traditional white and black scheme, they use cream/stone and dark charcoal. Your shutters and portico also are traditional. Besides painting, consider removing the shutters, beefing up the porch columns, and painting the front door it's own color.

I would recommend carriage garage doors. leave the brick but paint the shutters. replace or paint the front door in a contrasting color. would you consider putting in pavers to replace your porch area?

And with dark shutters...

since it sounds like the is staying unpainted, I'm not sure if painting the white another color is a great idea. I could see may be a pale green gray and dark black green shutters as an improvement. paint your front door to match and you should change your white safety glass to a silver grey. you might let the available colors for your glass safety door guide you in respect to the color to cover the white trim and exterior. or, you could remove the glass safety door.

I would use boxwood hedges or an evergreen hedge to hide the foundation of the house and porch. then create beds in front of hedges for plantings.

on your porch, you might consider putting box planters on the perimeter of your porch with some plantings appropriate for your area.

May I suggest a combo that will help what you have look great with minimal effort? Keep the white trim and shutters, but paint the white siding around the doors and window at the porch in a deeper gray. This will give contrast for the entry, white windows and nice columns. If you have additional siding in the back, it will also be painted this shade. Here's a color suggestion to test below. If possible, beef up the trim around the windows substantially - see image. If you have no height to the porch roof, then proportion things to the top trim.

The next two items are a bit more trouble, but will give a lot of character. In the gable above the porch, if you added shingle look siding - or real cedar shingles that you then painted the same gray so the gable fascia white gives contrast back to the trim . . that would add a lot of traditional character. Maybe order your house number in cursive wrought iron in black to hang back up on the gable here once the shingles are done. That would be traditional and charming. You can then use your house numbers down below over the front door's new cornice trim.

I can't see exactly the color of your roof but it looks to be a brown-gray / warm gray. It is not blue gray - and you need to key your gray tone to this. Therefore, I want to suggest a brown-gray / warm gray for these areas - ben moore's chelsea gray (see below) or kendall charcoal will be a great choice with red brick. [houzz=]

Finally, you need a traditional door but in a buttery soft yellow color - sw bees wax is proven as a historic tone, but you could go bolder with a brighter yellow and be fine. Black traditional oversized lanterns to flank the doors are perfect, but you may want to move them to outside the two windows and patch the old spot so the door doesn't bang into them but they light the entire porch area well. yes, do keep the roof in mind when picking a paint color. very good point. there is nothing worse to see a paint job that clashes with a roof.

What about gray shutters and paint the front facade of the portico gray as well as the porch floor then pop a yellow or robin egg blue door?

Changing out the Shutter along with new siding in front gable / possibly Shakes. Also soffit and fascia with gutters can really clean things up. Can't tell the current condition from the picture.
