Anyone else having trouble?

I did order my new roses (as it looks like I will have to replace most if not all of my current roses in the backyard). I will list them later in this post.

Now to my question. Is anyone else having trouble with this forum? I keep getting a ton of pop-up ads even though I have the computer set to block all pop-ups, have cleared out my cashe, etc. Just started (really bad) about 24 hours ago. I go along the edge of the posts very carefully not to touch any of the highlighted words but they still crop up. I am sick of Dish and John Deere! I can't read the posts because they block them! If you have a way to stop this, please let me know. I would appreciate it very much.

On to roses ordered for this year. I am trying to figure out how I am going to place all of these in the same bed so they don't clash. So any help along those lines would be appreciated too! These are all own root so they may take some time to get established. Somehow this year, I went nuts for bicolors, stripes and single roses. I am worried that next year, I won't like any of them and want the big cabbage roses back! I do tell myself that I have big cabbage ones in the front of my house and on the side of my house and not to worry. Hard not to when you have never seen these roses in person and don't know if they will work well with this hot climate and water restrictions. I know the Burling ones will work as they are bred here. Keeping my fingers crossed on the rest.

Climber for my big arch I decided to go with Flamingo Dancer.

Others for the bed includes;
Sister Elizabeth
Lady of Shalott
Lady Emma Hamilton
Alnwick Rose
Occhi di Fata
Maroon Eight

I am thinking about getting another pink or cream/pink blend as I will miss my Sharifa Asma. She never did well for me in the heat as far as rebloom. Unfortunately. She is gorgeous, however. Same with Evelyn. Love her but she doesn't rebloom that much in our heat, if at all.

I still have my Brother Cadfael and hope to keep one of him in the back of the bed. (I stick a twig of him in the ground and he grows like crazy). Not much for rebloom in our heat either but he is a sentimental favorite of mine and the one I have blooming is partial shade is doing great. Scent is to die for!

I am also thinking of Young Lydicas for that "other pink" cabbage rose. I am a sucker for a pink rose!

Wish I could help with your roses. I've been getting those pop-ups to and they are very aggravating, as soon as you close the windows on some they reopen on there own. I've been trying not to go near the words as well, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Out of those roses you named I've been wanting to try Lady of Shalott and Occhi di Fata , so let me know how they do for you!

What browser do you use? If you use firefox or safari or mozilla or chrome, there are 'extentions', which are little bits of program that you can install or 'add' to your browser which will block some, or if you want all advertising. The most common one is called AdBlock, and using it on the 'allow some advertising' setting means I see almost no adverts at all on gardenweb - just occasionally the banner ad at the top of the page. Zero popups ever, and zero in text links other than those inserted by the person whose comment I'm reading.
The only reason I don't have it set to block all ads all the time, is because some small independent sites rely on ad revenue to stay online and so I wish to support them. Of course, if their advertising was intrusive I'd block them. If you're using IE, sorry, someone else will have to advise, I avoid it like the plague!

Thank you for your response FDUK. Looks like I will have to go into this forum using google chrome. No pop-ups, no ads, no underlined words I have to avoid. It is like heaven! I can read everyone's post easily and when I respond it keeps my zone information so I don't have to retype it every time! What a joy after all that I put up with from my other browser.

I am having a terrible time with the pop ups. Making me crazy!! Very annoying. Lesley

Yeah, something has changed on GardenWeb in the last 24 to 36 hours, and I definitely don't approve.

They use to just pop up when I accidentally scrolled over a highlighted word. Now they just pop up willy nilly and over and over again. They block the posts so you can read them so I'm constantly clicking them away. ANNOYING!

I emailed the GardenWeb staff about this problem and this is what they emailed me back to do:

You should be able to opt-out of the in-line texts by following these instructions:

    1. When you're on a GardenWeb page, hover your cursor on the double-underlined word, but don't click it. You will see an advertisement open in a pop-up box.

    2. In the upper-left corner of the box, click the 'V' logo. A new browser window will open the Vibrant in-text advertising page.

    3. Scroll partially down this page, and click the 'Disable' tab. Click 'Click here to disable.' The page should update to now say 'Click here to enable.'

    4. Close the Vibrant in-text advertising browser window, then once you refresh your main browser window the Vibrant in-text advertising should disappear.

    I hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    GardenWeb Staff

Does anyone know if that fix works for android or iPhones? I often try to read garden web on those devises but the pop ups have been so bad it is next to impossible.

What browsers do you use Kippy? Firefox, chrome, dolphin, all support adblock, (not sure about the native android browser that will come have preinstalled with the phone - it may or may not, depends upon the device and the version of the bowser). I often use my android phone/tablet on garden web, so I can verify that!
There is a version of adblock that works for safari too, but I don't have an iPhone, so I can't specifically talk you through installing that. I can talk you through adding it on Safari on a Mac, if necessary.

cnet.com has some good info on adblock. I installed it and haven't had a single one pop up. Just do a search on adblock at cnet.com.

Well GW is stating how to get rid of the popups but how did they start? I have not had any for a least a year and now they are everywhere on this site.
    So what's up Garden Webb??????
