Tecumseh throttle governor help?

Ssnow blower, not tractor question, but I'm hoping for some leads. I have a Tecumseh OH318SA horizontal shaft motor on my snow blower(11.5 hp), and had a problem in the middle of clearing the last 16" snow the other day. Everything was running great for about an hour of fairly heavy going, and then all of a sudden, the governor fundtion stopped calling for more gas as needed for harder work. It was running fine without load, but as load added, motor just lost speed until it about stalled. Really seemed to be just running at fast idle, and as load overcame power, speed dropped instead of adding more gas to dig in. I know almost nothing about the function of the governor, but I pulled the shrouds and everything around the carb and all linkage, springs, etc seemed to be fine - dry, no signs of ice, nothing out of place, etc. After sitting overnight in unheated garage (at about 5 degrees) I needed to run it to clear snow plow pile, and it started and ran completely as normal, full power. That was only about 10 minutes of heavy work, and then put away. My questions are really as to understanding what could have happened to cause the governor to stop functioning and then come back to life after a rest. Is this a failure mode that suggests it will happen again? Something to do with overheating after working for a longer while? Other causes? There was no sign of anything unusual up to time it stopped working - no overheating, misfiring, etc. With Boston's record snowfalls, I'm sure I can't find a place to get it repaired until spring, as I do most of my own workk and don't have ties to any shop. Any hints, suggestions, leads to another site to learn more about governors would be most welcome. Tnks, mike
