I am interested in WS. So I would love to see what types of containers are being used. Also what is the best medium to be planting in?

    Thanks

My favorite medium is ProMix, which can be purchased in compressed bales and has nice, fine-textured, well-draining properties. However, it is not available routinely in my area. So, I end up using Miracle grow products and pick out the largest chunks that float to the top when I moisten the containers before sowing the seed. Both have excellent results. If I get a chance to get out to take a picture, I'll post one later today. Maybe I'll even do some sowing today and take pictures of the whole process. Though, there are pictures in the FAQ.

Here is my set up from last year. I am new to this forum, but not new to gardening!

Here are some containers I've collected and used in the past.

This is my first year (hope I am doing this correct) I have coral bells, milkweed (asclepias tuerbosa), and purple muhly grass. So far

My spinach containers. The experimental double tall one didn't work so well, so I think I'll be sticking to the simple containers despite the lack of headroom. So far I have daylilies, lavender, Joe Pye Weed, columbine, Amsonia and Alpine strawberries. My pup is, as always, very helpful...

Also my first year. Here's my set-up so far. I have Liatris, Meadow Rue, foxglove, yarrow, garlic chives, columbine, balloon flower and a few other perennials and biennials sown. It has been bone chillingly cold here since New Years, so hopefully the thick blanket of snow is keeping the seeds comfy. So cool to see what everyone else has going on!

My first year. I keep them huddled up and tied together with twine. I spread them out a little to give them airflow and the twine is my insurance policy none will go astray in foul weather. I check them regularly and am adding more in the next few days. I'm excited to see what I get!

BeesNeeds, I really like your set up! I just have a few milk jugs - around 15 - and a few other containers. I'll see if I can post pics this weekend.

Probably my favorite containers are 2L/3L bottles because they seem to last forever. They are also easy to make. Cut across the top about 2/3 way up and poke or cut holes in the bottoms. No taping, just slip the top part over the bottom part. Also one can see through the clear ones to read tags or check for seedlings. Seedlings pop out quickly with just an upside down tip.

Water jugs are my 2nd fav, prefer over milk jugs, no sour milk smell, but they both disintegrate after 2 years use. Dismay is lifting a milk jug full of sprouts and have the jug fall apart in one's hands.

No photos from 2015 as have only done 5 containers. Will do more in Feb/March.

Here is a photo from 2013. Only one jug showing but the other side of the patio was full of jugs.

Here is my glamorous setup, as of a few days ago. Everything was sown before Dec 21....decent sproutage, if only a bit untidy!!

....edited to say.....What a pigsty compared to everyone else. I'm embarrassed!!
