New company taking over the garden Webb?

Is any one a ware of this. I just saw it on the rose site. This may explain the pop ups

"So, gardenweb is being absorbed by Houzz. I go back to the early Spike era. Here I have learned so much, made friends. My garden and myself are the better for gardenweb. Perhaps now it is time to move on, as I fear the corporate merchandizing machine that is Houzz will somehow figure out how to sell-sell-sell on gardenweb in a way that NBC was never able to do. Sigh. Everything changes, right? All good things must pass."

I have a pop-up blocker :) Don't see that crap.

I also go back to the Spike era and will stick around until the information is no longer useful.

Lazy I did get rid of the pop ups as well with adblock.
Hope this site doesn't change but you know how that goes.

Yes, I saw the link they've displaying. I assume good things will happen. The software GW uses is really, really old and Houzz is up to date. So I'd think they'd upgrade at some point. I've been in different GW for more than 15 years I think and have seen times when the pop ups got so bad I left the site (pre blocker days) for a time. I think that's just a lack of resources, poorly implemented popups. Decent sites today don't use popups because users hate them.

I've been using Houzz for a few years...don't really like it much. It's the new world, great for entertainment, looking thru tons of pictures, but very little info. It always was a scrapbook type site. Maybe they have info somewhere, I just don't have the time to try and track it down. Maybe they want GW for info content?

Some of the GW forums were the most popular on the web years ago. Seems like the ones I visit are pretty dead now. Actually all forums I visit seem to have way fewer people. Smartphone people rule the web now. Houzz seems geared toward smartphone people.

I have no problems with the popups also. I have adblock installed on my browser. But waterbuy is correct, this forum format is pretty old, heck you can't even easily post pictures or hyperlinks without using html codes. Other forums have an array of text editing tools above the text box.

Which I wish had more traffic and content. The format of the messageboard is pretty nice and it's easy to post pics and edit text.

I used to read and post on the permaculture site. I don't know what their deal is...they recently archived everything and made everyone register again. There were some threads that spanned years that are now archived but cut off I guess. I looked at the site the other day and couldn't even find the forums. I always found the site confusing and now I have no clue and no desire to work that hard. It looks like the typical web site now, jam a bunch of unrelated crap together and spend a bunch of money on graphics. No thought to content or users.

Take a site with a bunch of users, a bunch of good content, and flush it all down the toilet and start over from scratch. Brilliant. Maybe the people posting were too old and they wanted a younger crowd for ads. Don't know. Didn't make any sense to me.

I never understood the purpose of the site or what they were trying to do. Lots of hip buzz words. They pushed a bunch of classes but most are taught by people who don't seem to know much and really expensive.
