gardencraze - As Gonzer says, it's Ae gamosepala, and as well as being very easy to grow in a pot, it also grows very well in the garden, but beware, it can become quite invasive.

Hi splinter1804, I didn't` know about it being invasive so that is perfect, because every few months or so I have a little sale to supplement my income so that is perfect. The pretty invaders is what I'm looking for. Not fun being a senior with low income, so this these work great for pleasure and income. LOL

Hi gardencraze - I'm a senior also so I know exactly what you're saying.

Anther thing about Ae gamosepala is that it often makes seed capsules, probably with the help of insects.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, a few years back I decided to try and grow some of this seed and was surprised at just how easy it was. The thing is that although most of the seedlings were of similar colour to the seed parent, there were a few which were different in colour (see pic) and to my mind, that made the whole exercise worthwhile.

You can try Billbergia pyramidalis too. Very very easy to grow and a flower every year from the pups.

Aechmea apocolyptica is a simmilar grower and very Hardy. It looks great growing over coir-lined hanging baskets. And produces lots of runners for propagation.
