On a side note... Why is it important to seal the plastic Baggie the cuttings are in? I have one cutting about an inch too big for the bag so it sticks out and was wondering if that could cause problems for all of my cuttings.

Leave it with just moist paper but not wet and then place it in zipper bag to keep the moisture in. No need for rooting hormone for figs; it can expedite rooting in some situation but it can expedite rotting of fig cuttings too.
Air-tight bag is need to avoid loss of moisture and to keep the humid environment in the bag.
