Haven't but I intend to. I have heard good things about this nursery and I have yet to see another with this selection.

Hi there-- Just FYI, try to avoid "Jap" maple as an abbreviation. It's frowned upon because of the derogatory associations with that word. JM is a good abbreviation. :)

I've ordered almost all of mine online. If you're looking for large ones, then you could check out MrMaple, Conifer Kingdom, Mendocino Maples, Forest Farm, Davidsans, Eastfork Nursery, Topiary Gardens.... there are a lot of reputable online nurseries. I've also had very good luck with a few on ebay (bonzaibob, acer1987, chuck1947chuck, etc.)

I ordered a Osakazuki Japanese Maple and a Hogyoku Japanese Maple from Forestfarm. Both trees have thrived and are beautiful specimens spring, summer, and fall.

How many are you looking for? Can get you ten for the price of one.

FWIW, Lowe's and Home Depot always offer some of the common laceleaf japanese maples in the spring and nearly summer. Selection won't be huge, but you can pick and chose. Sometimes there are some onesy-twosies offerings of the more unique cultivars. Usually in 3 or 5 gal containers. If you want something more unique or exotic, those suppliers magpiepix suggested are all fine.

Does anybody know where I can order a good "Mikawa Yatsubusa" online? I have one local nursery that I am going to visit, but I am not sure that I will be able to find this variety. I'm wanting to find a good dwarf green leaf maple for a larger container, that can handle the sun in the front yard. I have a Ryusen on the opposite side of the yard in a like container, so I'm needing one to balance it out. Home Depot usually sells the "viridis" variety, but I thought the "mikawa yatsubusa" would be more interesting.

If you are in a hot climate I wouldn't locate any of them in a spot that bakes in summer, especially if they are in a container.

3 gallon stock is big enough that the shipping cost may become a consideration.

Climate questions aside, you may want to look for a different variety. Mikawa yatsubusa can get quite large over time-- scroll down and look at the third picture here: http://florawonder.blogspot.com/2015/02/mines-bigger-than-yours.html

This is a large wood planter, if that makes any difference. I've read that the Mikawa Yatsubusa are slow growers, and suitable for bonsai and containers. That is why I was considering this variety. And the layering of the branches is a really nice effect. But I have never even seen one of these in real life, just going by what I've read and seen online. But if it's not suitable for the wood planter, I would probably still try to find somewhere in my yard for it.

I got several without incident, but they were all 1-2 year old semi-dwarf varieties. I'll agree that shipping cost on a 3 gallon might make your hair stand on end!

Perhaps you could find a nursery within a short drive that has the cultivar you want, or could get one for you.

Allan, I ordered and received a 'Mikawa yatsubusa' in my spring order from Conifer Kingdom. It's #1 size and super healthy, the leaves are a really lovely lime green color. Some great pics on that Flora Wonder Blog.

I ordered my Mikawa Yatsubusa from Diana at Topiary Gardens. She is great to work with and has a large selection. Just placed my second tree order from her (Hippy Fin Mo) and it's on the way.

I have talked to the guys at Mr.Maple and am planning a visit to their nursery as they are close to me. Ordered other plants from Conifer Kingdom (not JM) and have been happy.
