There is actually a little feed store on Britton in the Village. All these years I have just driven past it to go to the one in Edmond and to Horn's. Now both are gone...I may just have to check it out! We are losing options quickly.

I'm sorry to hear that Farmer's Grain is shutting down. That's sad.

I hope y'all can find some other places that carry a nice selection of the items you used to buy there.

Lisa, At least y'all had options. I've never had many options down here unless I drive 30-80 miles. I'm not whining---I knew when we moved to the Oklahoma outback that shopping would become very challenging.

Do y'all have Tractor Supply Stores up there? The two close to us (one is in Ardmore, OK, and the other is in Gainesville, TX) carry all the usually seeds, seed-starting supplies, seed potatoes, onion sets, small fruit trees, and some bagged plants (iris, daylilies, cannas, blackberries, etc.). They also have harvest supplies like half-bushel baskets and berry baskets, and a full range of canning supplies. I love TSC because I can get chicken feed, pet food and garden supplies all in one stop. They even have chicks and duckings in early to mid-spring, which makes them about as close to an old-timey farm store as anything still in business nowadays.

I buy seed potatoes at Atwoods, but I order onions from Dixondale because by the time it reaches our planting date, Atwoods onions always look very dry. I have to travel to Vinita for the nearest Atwoods, but we now have a TSC in Grove. Guess I'll check them out this year.

Yeah I'll probably be hitting up Atwoods in Kingfisher. The TLC on NW Expressway usually has a good selection as well.

I just liked Farmers Grain because they were handy to stop in on Saturdays after I got my haircut and they were just across the tracks from the barber shop. They also reminded me of the CO-OP in the town I grew up in.

It doesn't really make sense that places like this are closing. I keep hearing how people are interested in growing their own food, organic vegetables, and on and on. Yet every year another Feed and Garden store goes out of business.

Carol, The hardest thing about going into TSC in spring is chick time. I simply want to buy all the chicks and bring them home, and we certainly don't need more poultry.

OSUEngineer, I agree that it doesn't make sense that places like Farmer's Grain are closing down during a resurgence in edible gardening, beekeeping (our new Atwoods has a ton of beekeeping supplies), backyard chickens, etc. I think what we are seeing is that only the big box stores and big retail nursery chains can survive in today's retail environment, which is just so sad.

For a long time after we moved here, I'd willingly drive back to Fort Worth often to visit local nurseries and farm stores where I'd shopped most of my adult life----since around the early 1980s. I was thrilled to have those sorts of places still in business in the 2000s. Sadly, most of those are gone now, although there's still a very small handful left. Now when I drive to Ft Worth it usually is to visit family and the trip to one of those old-timey feed and seed places is just a quick side trip instead of the main event.

Goodness! I didn't know we were loosing Farmers Grain. What a bummer. I always shopped there for my organic products and for soils/potting mixes. They also offered some cool heirloom veggies I always looked forward to nabbing. While TLC offered similar, I liked the mom and pop feel to the store. Really sad. Hubby discovered a little seed/feed store in Bethany that we occasionally hit up for Bacto products.

There was a place in Tulsa that I loved called The Farm Store. Its been gone a long time now, but I loved to wander around in there, they had the best gardening stuff!
