I don't live where P. incarnata grows wild, but I have never heard of named selections of this species. I would guess that most of the propagation of P. incarnata is by seeds, and so there would not be any named varieties from seedlings, since P. incarnata is not self fruitful. Planting seeds from a fruit that was good tasting would be a good way to look for more good tasting fruits.

It can be propagated by cuttings, so it should be easy to spread cultivars, but I also haven't seen any named varieties. My understanding was that Native Americans used to cultivate them, so you'd think there would be some developed strains, but I guess things revert to wild type pretty quickly if left unattended. I guess I'll just buy another random incarnata for pollination, and see what happens. Maybe in time I'll look around for fellow growers in the area and see if anybody has something special.

I grew one named cultivar- 'Alba'- so named for it's pure white flower. the fruit was not that great. Some P. incarnatas are self fertile.

One of the regular posters here was--or knew of--experimenting for a better edible P. incarnata.

Incarnata is VERY easy to grow from seed. Onalees seeds has them and the plants from her seeds were rated very good in an incarnata trial in Wisconsin.
