I've never had animals eat any peonies that I know of. My neighbor said she had deer eat new growth on a newly planted peony, though.

It is been raining all week. I have no chance to take pictures. Hopefully soon. One good thing about this area where my house is located is that we do not have deers (for now). I hope they never find their ways here.

I am guessing it is deer. I have only one white tree peony in the front of my house. I have lost a few buds too. It is sad to wait a year and then have them dissappear :(
Do you grow many? I only have 2 homestead peonies, both doubles,
one is pink, the other is white.

Hi, Bluegrassmom. Fortunately, there are not many deers running around my development. If there are, I am sure they would go for my rose bushes first. It looks like the culprit is the squirrel. They run rampant around here. With two neighbors growing 4 oak trees, it is inevitable.

It started innocently enough, this peony love. I bought a few peonies to try several years ago. Then I added a few more. Then there were the sales that I couldn't pass up so I added a few more. Then I saw photos of oh so beautiful peonies posted on GW, and I gotta to grow these peonies too. Before I know it, I have added over 100 peonies to the home garden. It is crazy. But every spring that I see their blooms, it seems to be all worth it. I have gotten some new itoh peonies this fall that I am very excited about and can't wait to see their first bloom.

Your garden must be breathtaking in the Spring!!!!!! Did you discover the varmint that ate some of your buds? I’m curious because I discovered some of mine have been eaten overnight. I live in the city. GRRRRR!!!!! 🌚 Going to sprinkle some Plantskyd around them today but am seeking answers as to the culprit.
