Cucumber beetles are serious problems where any of the cucurbit family grows and control means planning what to do for control quite early, like now.
Floating Row Covers can provide much protection, but must be placed when seedlings are set out, and they will keep pollinators away as well. Many people report good success spraying the plants with Kaolin Clay, which disguises the plants so the beetles do not find them. Some growers report good results with using straw mulches, which seem to keep the beetles from crawling around so they do not get to the plants as well.
Many of the broad spectrum poisons that can control these beetles also will kill the pollinators needed to produce fruits.

in all my years.. i cant tell you.. how many times... a plague year .. is not repeated for many years to come ...

there is not much you can do .... prophylactically ... other than what kim suggested ...

IPM does not favor spraying chems nor organics around.. hoping something comes its way ... we find.. and ID a problem.. and react accordingly .....
