What a great space !

The sketch furniture plan is a bit small to see, do you have other views of the room such as looking towards the kitchen and dining area so we can have a better sense what's on the other side?

That is really a Great room not just a great room. You have the space to treat the room as two spaces. I love sectionals but the one shown would not be my first choice.

Would love to hear your comment on what type of sectional... I am concerned not to 'box' off the living area -- and want to be able to preserve 2 focal points-- the fireplace and the L wall (tv)... Perhaps you can get the idea from the small layout..

Wow, what a beautiful space !! I woulld consider building out that fireplace with some more tile and a bold wood mantel. The additional tile doesn't have to match what's already there, but should compliment. Hang a tall piece of artwork above. This space cries out for a sectional or two equal size sofas, which give you more placement options, especially if you like to move furniture around. Look at the options at Lazy Boy. You can design your own sectional or sofas, and pick the fabric. Go BIG. Coffee table in front of the sectional/sofas should be large also. The sectional/sofas should face both the TV and the fireplace. One side could accomodate a long sofa table behind. Are you going to use it as a dining room space also? If not, you could do a game table at the opposite end of the fireplace if you're into that. Or a separate seating area with a smaller sofa and chairs floated in the area. Definitely go for at least two LARGE and BOLD and COLORFUL area rugs to anchor each space. Drapery panels which go floor to ceiling on each side of those fabulous windows/sliders, but panels which just hang, and do not close, and pick those after you decide on the rugs. Paint the walls a warmer color, but that would come only after you pick the furniture, rugs and drapery panels. Good Luck and send photos as you proceed !!

I do like the idea of part of the sectional not having a back. It lets you access it from either side of the space. This said it does limit the way you do the layout of the divided room. I love so many sectionals it will be a bit difficult to choose. Your needs are not the same as mine. I really love the Pallisar Cortez it is amazingly comfortable. The power recliners are amazing. I know I never thought I would actually suggest a sofa with recliners. I put one in a clients house and I feel in love.

I think given the multi focal points of the room and the width of the space in front of the fireplace that a sectional is limiting and a bit closed off. I think you would get more options out of a sofa facing the fireplace and 2 chairs or a loveseat in front of the doors facing the TV. You could easily swap this arraingement if you get tired of it. A sofa table behind the sofa would provide a divider for the space and i hop there are some floor plugs in the space! The trick with large open multi purpose rooms is that openeness does not always mean big! I would choose pieces that are taller, tricky if you are going modern, or have a lot of impact, like darker color, chunky arms, large pattern, or details, without over doing it on the size. A big scale sofa is often 40-41" deep which eats up a lot of depth in your space. This is another reason I would look carefully at the sectional you have chosen, it seems to eat up a lot of the space. On the other hand if you do not need to seat a lot of people and want to keep it simple a sectional is not a bad choice. I am not sure the purpose of the corner ottoman of the one you have chosen. It does not seem to be very functional as a corner piece, one of the best things to me about a sectional is the corner you can snuggle up in! I like the Moda from Crate and Barrel or this one from West elm, The dimensions on the (Dunham I think) from West elm are ideal.

great room! tons of space! so much fun! What style are you veering towards? A more modern look or contemporary homey look?

Veering toward earthy contemporary look. Here's another sofa possibility... perhaps one long sofa against wall with slider doors and two chairs facing fireplace a la the suggestion from North Bay home. Also attaching a likely selection of the dining table.

I think I would use 2 of the couches you have posted above, one on slider wall facing tv and one facing fireplace. The one facing the fireplace I would put a sofa table behind it. A big square or round coffee table, not rectangular. I might also add 2 smaller chairs on each side of the fireplace by those windows if room allows it, in leather perhaps. If only room for one I would place it in the corner to the right of fireplace with a floor lamp, or small table and lamp. And yes, a huge piece of artwork above fireplace, with lots of color!
btw...can I move in? This is absolutely wonderful! love love love it!
