S...I don't know how to do the pic thing. However, I will say your seedling looks much stockier and healthier than mine (planted two days later). I was a bit slow with the lights. Let me know how you like that variety...OK?

PS...did you sow your seed directly into that pot?

I think I've got another month before I even plant. Late February is right for zone 6...right?

Seysonn, I hope that you are right with the choice of the dwarf Purple Heart, I copied your idea and have few seedlings, one for me and the rest for some friends....

I still have tomatoes producing in the garden but my seedlings are getting ready for the next season.

1) posting a single picture is easy. Just click on "Browse" button on top of the Post a Follow-Up while you are posting a message. That will take you to your computer's pictures/documents. Now when you are there, go to the folder where picture is. Click on it then click "Open". You will be back to GW where you were.

Now just to test, click on "Preview Message". You will see the picture. But if you want to post more than one picture, you'll need to become a member (for free) in photo hosting sites like PHOTOBUCKET. then you can upload your picture there ... make album (s). From there the you can post all the pictures you want.

2) I germinated the seed in paper towel ... then planted in the pot. What makes it sturdy is the LIGHT: 16/24 .

@ harry ... I will also start germinating in 2 weeks. This one (in pic) is just for fun.

Linda... You are right. My intended plant out begins some time in mid April, depending on the weather and forecast. I use mini hoops, cold frame and small cages wrapped with bubble wrap. So may plant out is from mid April to mid May.

Obviously, the one I have started (dwf. Purple Heart) is experimental. I will germinate my tomatoes in about 2 weeks from today.

Yeah. That seedling (Dwarf Purple Heart) looks like a Bonsai . That is why I started it so early. I have another one few weeks later ( Hahms Gelbe Topftomate) . This on is just starting to grow true leave. Because they are dwarf, I can manage to keep them inside til plant out in April. I might start a few Polish dwarf and Rosella, sooner than the rest of the gang. I wouldn't do indets this early.

I have a terrible problem with root knot nematodes and I like the flavor and variety of heirloom tomatoes, so my seedlings were grafted today (heirlooms onto Celebrity). Each one is in a little one quart ziploc "greenhouse" to keep the humidity up while they recover.

Celebrity itself is a well known hybrid too. Are you growing some of that too ?

Yes, Celebrity has root knot nematode resistance. I will keep one or two without grafting. I have about a 50-60% success rate with my grafts.

I know it's been pretty warm there this winter. Watch out for the middle of next week. Could be below freezing, maybe even way below freezing.

My grafted seedlings are completely out of their high humidity environments today. About half survived. Next step - get them used to the outdoors.

No heat needed here in Miami. Seeds started out exposed to the elements. No hardening off either.

So far I have just 2 seedlings : Hahms Gelbe Topftomate and Purple Hear. Both are dwarf. My second batch is underway. They are just poking out. My major germination will be at the end of FEB, for plant out mid April. Probably I will start hardening off early April, depending on the weather then.

Planted 1/22, so 29 days old. I thought I was supposed to wait 6-8 weeks, thoughts? Just started using Foliage Pro @ 1/4tsp/Gal a few days ago. FP is my indoor fert, outside will be organic.

A few that had to come inside for a few days. As well as some that I have potted up. Also I have a few that I still need to pot up that have been waiting longer than I care to say.

Here is a picture of just 8 vars, as pioneers. They germinated 5 days ago.
The bulk has to come in couple of weeks.

I re potted some of them today, into 3 1/2" pots.
