Crossandra, anyone?
This subforum is a pretty quiet place it seems. Nevertheless, here is another attempt to tease some information from the masses:
Anyone here ever work with Crossandra? I'm talking in the fashion indicated by this forum's title-as a southern or even downright tropical plant being worked with in the north.....as an annual.
I like the flowering characteristics that I see in the pictures, I like the general growth habit, and taken together, they combine to yield a plant of considerable value within large containers. But I hear they can be thirsty....as in, prohibitively so. All these ideas I scribble here are for at my job as a municipal horticulturist, and one hot and dry weekend can be enough to do in anything that's not able to withstand a little drought.
I also always consider whether the plant in question will "bulk up" fast enough under glass, whether or not it will flower heavily and consistently over the whole summer.....in other words, all the attributes that we take for granted with our more well-known summer annuals.
Any info offered will be appreciated.
