Painted Brick - Color Help!

Hi,
We are building a house and I want to have painted brick (it's already in progress and too late to go back). I'm just really struggling with a good paint combination! We are building in Texas and the other homes going up in our neighborhood are all brick and stone at this point. I like an off-white color with dark shutters perhaps but that might look a bit odd in the neighborhood so I'm wondering if I need to try a khaki color (such as Sherwin Williams Relaxed Khaki). Does anyone have advice on colors?

Painted brick is a pain to maintain. I won't even consider buying a home with painted brick, its too much work to clean it up.

I cannot imagine why anyone would build a brand spankin' new home and then paint the brick right off the bat. I agree, just get a color of brick you like and go from there with paint for the non-brick portions only.

I live up north and we don't usually paint bricks because the paint peel due to the hot and cold, rainy seasons. Why do you want to paint your bricks when you building a new home? You should just pick out color bricks that you want! After all; bricks are made in many colors and textiles and size too! It seems kind of foolish to install a brick wall and then paint over it!

Better to leave the bricks natural - unpainted and do colors that will complement the brick. That will make the house look natural, richer and fashionable too.

Have you talk with your builder? Certainly, he/she did not recommend to you to paint the bricks on your home your building! I get a home designer and let him/her do the color selections inside and out since it seems you don't know what your are doing! LOL!

I love painted brick and I say do it! There will always be people anti brick painting but this is your home. Also, masonry paint has come a long way and is very durable.

I agree. Love, love, love painted brick! And, I especially love an off-white painted brick. Your home will be gorgeous. How about a creamy, off-white brick face with shutters in a pale, robin's egg blue, blue-green, or sage green? Kind of a soft, traditional, French Country palette that works well with the landscape. Also, I've seen some very pretty off-white brick homes with light khaki or tan trim and shutters with a rich black or near-black front door - almost a tone on tone look with a "pop" of drama at the entry. It's difficult for me to be sure about the roof color in the photo, however, you could try matching the roof color-family in the trim/shutters as well.

I like how you mention the paint is already in the mix - it lets me know you're sticking with it (in case someone tries to talk you out of it). I found the pic below online - it reminds me of your house (which is beautiful by the way). Go with what feels right and what you love. Don't worry about the neighbors either.
