Elsa/cystitis/vinegar

Last night I was frantically searching through messages trying to find the amount of apple cider vinegar and water to give for the cystitis symptoms Pjanedapain posted about; I had the how much of the water and how much the vinegar but not the how much to give and how many times per day. Elsa was in pain from the cystitis and all I had to sooth her with was the Methigel and an appointment with our vet for the following day. I decided to take matters in hand and gamble on what I knew.

I mixed the water and apple cider vinegar and gave her 1cc of the mixture. She was feeling so bad, I was so worried about her and it was killing me that I couldn't somehow take away all her pain.

I stayed up all night with her and about 2 AM I began to notice a change in her, she wasn't running back and forth to the litter box every 10 minutes, I offered her food and she ate a good amount and then she laid down and fell into a deep sleep, in fact she even began to snore loudly. This morning she was a totally different cat, I couldn't believe what a change in her.

At lunch time John and I were talking (he calls me every day on his lunch break) and I was telling him how much better Elsa was doing. He then began telling me about his grandparents and vinegar. John said his grandmother would get up every morning, go to the frig, get out a quart of pickles and take a "big old drink" as he stated and every morning his grandfather would take a tablespoon of vinegar. John's grandfather was plagued with kidney stones for years until someone told him to try vinegar and John's grandmother had terrible bladder infections along with bouts of cystitis until she tried vinegar for her problem. John said every morning, first thing, his and her vinegar.

Elsa has had a total of 3 doses of the apple cider vinegar and water and she is like a different cat. She is eating better and was actually even a little bit fiesty with me this evening, first time in years.

I'm thrilled and it appears Mz. Elsa is as well.

I wanted to give an update about my Elsa since we started the vinegar and water. I nicknamed it "BugJuice" and she gets her BugJuice twice a day without fail. Thank the Lord and the BugJuice!!!!! She has not had any more symptoms of the cystitis or a bladder infection. I sort of blamed the cystitis on all the fishy cat food she was eating but we were at a place with her trying to get her to eat more than she had been, I was letting her have a lot of the fishy cat food; she loves it so much. She was getting the Whiskas Purrfectly Fish packets; she LOVED the Salmon and the Snapper. however many times a day I could get her to eat and she was also getting the Whiskas Purrfectly Chicken, Elsa was always a big fan of chicken. Knowing how Elsa loved gravy so I began alternating the 9-LIves Chicken and gravy to try to draw back from the fish a bit.Elsa also continues to get the Selegiline (manufactured under the brand names of Anipryl, L-deprenyl, Eldepryl, Emsam, and Zelapar) for her dementia symptoms and THANK GOD that has helped a lot.

Something Elsa did recently SHE PURRED and I was all but doing the happy dance. I felt bad about it because I was petting her and loving on her waiting for John to come and help me give the BugJuice so that put a stop to the purring. But since then she has purred a couple more times so I know her purr is not lost forever. Nothing like picking up your cat to love on them and they immediately begin to purr.

Elsa is now jumping up on the back of the couch and napping there. At first it hurt my feelings a bit; always before she napped laying up against me on the couch but John said he felt it was a show of independence plus the fact the was strong enough to jump up there. Evidently everything I am doing is on the plus side and heading in the right direction with her.

I thank you all for the prayers and well wishes for my Mz. Elsa.

So glad to hear that Mz. Elsa is feeling better :)

I know my guy is feeling a little down when he cuddles with me. Sadly, it's a good sign when he ignores me...

I am a devotee of apple cider vinegar as well. A few years ago I was having problems with cysts (ovarian) and apple cider vinegar was my solution- took the pain and bloating away in 2 days. I can't bring myself to drink it every day generally, but I do it a few times a week and it keeps the problem at bay. Some of my friends haven't had such great luck, but I am grateful that it works for me.

Our 2 labs and 5 outdoor cats get apple cider vinegar in their water daily. I put about a TBLS of vinegar in a gallon of water. They have been getting this for years and we have had no medical problems at all.
