Slightly Disappointed

We are having the grand opening for a brand new Hobby Lobby store here and although it's a wonderful place I'm a little disappointed in the quilting fabric. Not much variety. But don't get me wrong, overall it's a great place - I didn't realize how much Home Decor they carried. (I'd never been to one before.) And they do carry items that I've never seen at other craft/hobby stores such as stained glass supplies. And as far as I could tell they only carried C&C thread.

I love Hobby Lobby. If you sign up for emails they send you a 40% off coupon that you can use to buy 1 item each time you visit Hobby Lobby when you check out. And they will give you rain checks, like when they run their Sewology blue water soluble fabric pens on sale for 50% off, if they are out of stock they will order more for you at that same price for you to pick up the following week from the store.... and these pens are better than Mark-B-Gone pens, cause the Sewology blue pens have better tips.

    Best to you,
    Sandra

Love their 40% off, but only on regular priced items. If you have a smart phone, just google "Hobby Lobby Coupon" and they will use the coupon on your phone. At our store the quilting fabric is always marked 30% off. When I had to order 2 bolts, they used the discount price as the regular price and I got the 40% off that.

Rita, Where is this Hobby Lobby located? The last one I was in was in Ocala. DH likes to scout out hobby stores though, so this might be close enough to see what they have.

I haven't purchased any fabric from Hobby lobby in probably five or six years, with the exception of maybe some Kona cotton or muslin. I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden their fabric selection changed. They went from having really nice quality cottons to cheaper fabrics that were badly printed and coarse and just plain ugly. I still go there, don't get me wrong. It's a great place to use those 40% off coupons and buy batting or interfacing or fusibles, or notions, etc. and they have wonderful crafting departments with a large selection of many different things. The home decor selection is huge and you can almost always find something you will like or if you need a present, it's a great place for that too. I hardly ever pay full price for anything there between the coupons and their wonderful sales. You can get the coupons on your iPhone or you can print them out on your computer.

Sharon, it's here in Brooksville, on the main drag (Hwy. 50 and Mariner). You live up the road from here don't you?? It just opened this week. Again, it's a great store for home decor, and many different craft items, just not what I expected for quilting fabric.

That's interesting. I feel that my Hobby Lobby has a pretty nice selection of quilting cottons. Maybe it's a regional decision?

Sharon, you're only a couple of hours from the best quilt shop I know, Rainbow's End in Dunedin. I would LOVE to be that close to it, even if it's a testy drive down 19.

Rita's even closer, time-wise! ( I love google maps,ha!) I promise, I'm not a stalker, Wanda VA can vouch for me.

I want to move to Dunedin and work at that shop, or at least be rich so I could afford to live there AND shop there. LOL

I have heard so much about Rainbow's End that I would love to see it. DH doesn't drive that far anymore and unless someone else is driving, we stay as far away from congestion (in every sense of the word) as much as we can. I have met Kate, but since we rarely leave town now, I haven't even met the few of us who live in this area......which really seems to be a shame.

I used to go to Rainbow's End for a rare special treat when I lived in Tampa, that was almost ten years ago. All I can say is, if it's still like it used to be it is worth the drive. That place will make your tongue roll right out of your head.

I made it to Rainbow's End when I was visiting a friend in Tampa back in 2009. Even though I had 3 kids in tow, I still found it FAB-U-LOUS!!

As I recall they had a huge selection of batiks.

LOL, gals...three girlfriends and I made a day trip from Orlando to go to Rainibows End a couple of years ago! We stopped at Country Quilts & Bears, too. :)

    I'm ready to go again!

I would love to go back but A: you really need to have some money to spend and B: the traffic going down is just horrendous any way you go. I knew the back roads to get there (through Oldsmar and over 580) but it's been a long time ago and they are probably almost as bad now as the highways and forget about U.S. 19 or 275. I'm not a bold highway driver, never have been.
