Orphan Blocks

These are some blocks I had, for some reason or another, and decided to put them together.

And another one I finished today......they are both about 44"X60".

Wow, those look planned. I love the heart block.

I like 'em! The houses are sweet. And your sashing pulls it all together.

Those are great, Sharon. They don't look at all unplanned. You really do a wonderful job with your "orphans."

They look great. Congrats! You did a great job making them into lovely quilts.

I look at my orphan blocks every now and then but can never think of a way to put them together into a quilt. They are all so different,
I tend to do a lot of one-sample blocks using any available colors, so I have a boxful of disparate blocks.

    TFS.

I especially like the pinwheel quilt. The sashings pull them all together. You are so creative! And you've been busy.

I read somewhere when quilting samplers, or different blocks, etc., keeping the quilting on all the sashing the same will unite the quilt and give it continuity. Your sashings make these blocks play together nicely. Nice job.

Once again you've done a fabulous job!!!

Thank you everyone. I've been trying to think how some of them came to be and have come to the conclusion that possibly there was a mystery started many many years ago, but for the life of me, cannot figure out why there would be so many of the same big blocks made with so few pieces. Plus, I must have been going with a 30's look.

I was thinking if we make our sample blocks with similar types of fabric, that might be enough (with the sashing) to pull them together for a top. Something to think about, anyway.

These are being donated to a charity. Sending them off (eventually) to a gal in Oregon who will finish them up to completion. This year I'm going to try and get blocks put together. For the last two years, I've been concentrating on either completing or sending UFO's off for completion. I'm down to 17 (that I can think of) tops, so it's time to work on blocks.

Very good day's work. Those blocks were just waiting for a little TLC. Good job.

Orphan blocks also make cute tote bags or pillows, or 6" make cute mug rugs or coasters. I don't have many as most of my orphans are bad sewing mistakes that I don't want to revisit!

Great job, Sharon! I agree, they look like they were planned. I really like the heart block, also. They will all make great charity quilts.

Great solutions. I agree with someone who said they even look planned. I guess we tend to love certain colors and designs, so maybe that pulled them together too.
