White serger

I have a White Superlock 2000 serger. I have been sewing for many years and always wanted a serger thinking it would make things so easy. It's been about 4 years now and I am no farther ahead than before. I bought it online so there was no dealer support.... lesson learned.

Anyway it seems I spend much of my sewing time fiddling around with this serger trying to get the stitches balanced etc. than actually getting any sewing done. So inevitably I give up and overcast with my regular machine.

But I am into making doll clothes now and would like to use the serger to finish the inside seams, I am working with spandex so I bought a stretch needle and have been trying to work at it. I have the stitches almost where I need them to be.

My problem is skipped stitches.. It'll sew along for 4-5 inches and then skip.... sew and skip. I've tried trouble shooting the problem but have not been able to solve it. Followed the manual suggestions but no luck. Again....time spent not sewing.... Any suggestions? Thanks.
