Hairline crack

I've asked for advised on another forum about moulding over the cabinets but this is another problem. We are trying to do a renovation on the kitchen at our cabin. These are maple cabinets from Craigslist that we painted. While attaching one of the pulls the cabinet cracked! I'm so disappointed! Can anyone advise us the best way to repair it?

the crack isn't big enough for any concern . and other than a patch stick to fill the surface of the crack , there's not much to be done. a patch stick is more or less a crayola crayon. find the closest color match, shave off a little crayon and rub it into the crack till it's filled , then take a credit card and carefully shave off the excess. btw, if you warm the crayon a little it becomes more pliable and easier to push into the wood.

That's a tough one.I would take a utility knife and make a V groove cut along the crack to get a little surface area for a bond and then fill with bondo,sand and repaint.

Unless your photo is rotated 90 degrees, it would be unusual for a crack across the grain like that. The stile (vertical part) should extend all the way to the top and the rail (horizontal part) should butt into it.

But regardless, put me in the camp of bondo and repaint. I'd probably wick in some super glue first as an attempt to keep it from getting worse.

the unusual crack is why i think the paint itself is cracked , not the wood. hence the crayon . but if you have matching paint ,have at it.

Cant really make out of it was the stile or rail that split.

To me it looks like the bottom rail of a door that has split. If it is a door. Open it and see if the split goes all the way through the wood. This would indicate that the wood itself is cracked. If so. Remove the door lay it face down. Apply a small amount of thin CVA glue (super glue) along the crack. The thin CVA glue will soak into the wood and bond it tight. then paint over the cracked paint.

If the wood is not split all of the way through. Just repaint it.

i like the idea of superglue HIPPY, but if you paint the door, it will look newer than the others.

May try using a white paint pencil to applya very small amount of paint with the crack. Not across it. Then wipe it off right after it is applied by wiping with the crack and again not across it. All you want to do is use just enough paint to fill the crack only. It may take a few applications to fill.
