Lighting at my bathroom vanity

I am having my master bathroom renovated, and will have two sit-down vanities and one sink along one of the walls. I know that is against conventional wisdom, but that is what we want and not what my question is about.
I have a mirrored medicine cabinet for above the sink and two mirrors, one over each vanity. My contractor is advising me to put wall sconces above the mirrors instead of along the sines as I planned. He thinks I can use more lamps that way and that that will be needed to give adequate light for the sink and vanity areas. There will be recessed lights in the ceiling above (9 foot ceiling). There is still a fur-down in pic, but will be removed. The positions of one mirror and the medicine cabinet are marked with yellow tape. The yellow X's are the proposed positions for sconces to be positioned bulb down.
