Can you give more detail of how the lines in the Corian are scored?

How do you keep the cracks from collecting moisture and growing mold and mildew?

Great Questions! The lines in the Corian were scored in the shop with a stationary panel saw to a depth of 3/16 by 1/8 wide. While the panel saw in our shop is very accurate, this same results could be achieved on the job site with a precise circular saw and rail system. The rail system is important as without, I'm afraid the base of the saw against the Corian would scratch the surface. http://www.festoolusa.com/power-tools/track-saws/ts-55-req-plunge-cut-track-saw-561556. As for mildew.... Corian is a hard non porous material designed to shed water and resist mildew growth.

As Corian is so expensive is there another material that could be used instead?

There are many Corian like products on the market and I'm sure any of them from reputable manufactures would work. We've also used HI- MACS from LG with good results in shower applications. Please let me know if we can be of further help.
