My woodworking guy (Naticchia, Ewing, NJ) who is doing the shiplap is also ordering and fabricating the Corian to match. I have also found a couple (not many) stone fabricators in my area who were able to provide quotes.

Hi Meri,

The Corian was glued to a masonry backer board with an approved Corian adhesive. I'm thinking it was 100% pure silicone, however, it's also possible it was something else. Dupont/Corian would have that information listed on their site. We did brace the material for 48hrs to for proper bonding along with adhesive cure time.

You'll be fine. The width can only be so narrow before you compromise the waterproofing of the curb and base.

This is a wonderful look for a shower! We are about to embark on our remodel, and I wonder if one could use painted hardiboard exterior siding for the shower walls to achieve a similar design? It seems that if cement fiberboard would work on the outside of a house, through storms and such, it should work on a wet environment on the inside.

The only difference I would see is the use of soaps on a regular basis in a shower situation. I might need to go talk to the paint guys, to ask about this, as well as the best way for cleaning the painted boards on a regular basis.

OK... just did a little more research: Sherwin Williams has a product called Duration Exterior Acrylic Coating, which they recommend for cement boards. It's got me thinking! The worst that could happen is maybe one would have to replace some boards here and there over time...? I would love to hear from the professionals on this one!

Hi,

The curb is built up of 3- 2x3 pieces of engineered lumber. It was wrapped in a conventional butyl membrane and then a cement type board such as Durarock was used for the sub-cap, walls and short risers on the curb faces. We then poured a packed cementitious base and began the Corian work. The shower curb cap is 3/4" Corian and the risers below are also Corian.

While this shower is like the day we built it and problem free, I'd like to note with the advancements in waterproofing technology, we would use Wedi or the Schluter for the sublayer components.

Hope this helps!

Merry Christmas,

JR

The Corian is scored to look like individual planks from larger sheets . There were a few horizontal seams due to material length; at those junctures we milled a half lap and caulked the back of the joint to keep the water out.

I don't remember where the knob cam from, however, the shower door manufacturers will have a selection to choose from. If they don't have what your looking for, you can use any set of knobs that have machine threads. the connection method is a long machine bolt with the head cut off off or short piece of threaded rod. The hole would need to be drilled by the fabricator before the glass it tempered.

Thank you for the interest in our photo. While it appears as though the Corian floats around the room, we did exactly what you were thinking. There is a mitre (45 degree joint) on the left side by the hanging towels, the other seam is behind the post to the left of the door in the background.

Thank you! I did a small bathroom on the cheap. I used a Home Depot white washed paneling but hung it horizontally. A simple chair rail covered the seam between the panels and at the ceiling. The floor is an Armstrong sheet remnant from Lowe's that is a dead ringer for a hand scraped floor. A generous square pedestal sink with square shaped faucets completes the linear look. I grain painted a small cabinet with a honed granite top to simulate the graining in the walls. It is reminiscent of your design.

I spoke with the builder about this. This is solid surface material, (like Hi-Macs by LG, corian, formicas new solid surface material), that they routed w/ a 1/8" wide and 1/4" deep grove. Be sure to caulk generously at each grove where the solid surface material meets up with the wood shiplap.

The curb is fabricated from 3 alternating layers of 2x3 kiln dried framing lumber on the flat so the outside corners lap over each other. Once the waterproof membrane is installed, the interior vertical sides and top of curb are covered with Wonderboard followed by 3/4" Corian. The glass panels are bedded in a silicone caulk on the bottom and sides - there are no groves.

In the case of a shower stall floor, the additional grout can be a benefit, as it helps create a less slippery surface. In general, mosaic makes a great counterpoint to larger tiles, because the dramatic shift in scale makes the mismatch clearly intentional. (Here a hexagonal mosaic beautifully contrasts oversize Corian planks.)When to use a mosaic layout: To highlight an accent wall, on a shower floor or lining a niche.

Wood-look shiplap. Keep a beach-inspired look going right through the bath without worrying about water damage with Corian sheet, cut to look like shiplap. In this master bath, the ceiling and walls are poplar wood shiplap siding, and the area inside the shower is Corian fabricated to match. A spacious shower with glass surround, gooseneck shower head and gray hex tiles on the floor complete the fresh, coastal look.Plumbing components: Waterworks Henry Line

6. This coastal-inspired shower in Nantucket, Massachusetts, was designed by Jonathan Raith. It features a shiplap surround and a smooth pebble floor.

How to Fake ShiplapWe won’t tell. There are various ways to fake the shiplap look. One method is to install non-shiplapped wood boards with 2-millimeter tile spacers (or even nickels), giving the illusion of shiplap reveals between the boards. There are MDF panels, concrete boards and tile products that can be installed in a manner replicating the look of wood shiplap. There are even wallpapers stamped in shiplap designs.
