Hello Houzzers. Is there a design norm when it comes to pendants/ chandeliers appearing in the same vantage point? I have one in my foyer, and was wondering if I could have another (a globe pendant) in my living room adjoining the foyer. Do I have to relatively match these two? Am I limited, design-wise, to a flush light fixture in the living room? I have a globe pendant in mind, which looks nothing like that in the foyer.

To me, that one is too far removed from your original. I'd try to tie in the ORB.

the same finish will do. post a picture of what you have in mind...seems like a shallow room so be careful of the bulk.

It's a different finish and will be a diameter of about 15" in diameter. There's a larger size of the same product available from the same retailer, but I'm leaning towards this.

You're right, and those look more complementary. My problem is that I don't seem to like these styles for the ambience of that space. For one, they can't hang as high without looking awkward.

Do you not have room? There are pretty flush mounts as well.

I think you should first set up the space with all the decor and then take a picture, it will help to have a more complete space when choosing.

@ Emmy. The layout is 11.5' X 16', with a 9-foot high ceiling, so it's not exactly tiny. I don't want a fixture hanging too low, partly because it will become the focus of the room. I have a huge wall piece which I want to remain as the focal point. The more character the fixture has, the more attention it gets. That's why if I end up with a hanging fixture, it has to be to my liking, and understated.

@ flair lighting. My idea is to keep furniture pieces in this room to a minimal. I however have a pretty clear idea what I'd be changing, and fortunately, or unfortunately, the fixture I love may clash with something else outside that room.

well you just cant get something very big for this ceiling height. no more than 24 inches with the chain or wire.

long i mean. im thinking you should look into semi flush mounts or flush mounts.

Absolutely. The fixture I have posted is only 15.5" in diameter, and the wire will have to hang short. The design of the globe itself makes that look fine. If I found a flush or semi-flush that I love, it might indeed be a better bet. I had pondered that option, with a floor lamp, but I'm trying to avoid having much on the floor.

It's nice when there is something in common, it could be the hardware color, the material of the light (glass / wood / crystal) , or the color of the light.

The picture below can show you how different chandeliers in one space look great because of the use in the same glass...

I agree with you. In this case, there happens to be a hardware colour match. Very different materials and designs though :)
