Urgent rose pruning help

Hello all,

Thanks for the wonderful forum, I really need help with my rose plants.

Attached is the picture of the rose plant after pruning it. Last summer I over fertilized the plant on a really hot day. It has a bad effect on the plant, but I controlled the damage by watering a lot. Picture also shows how the stem looks.
The rose plant was flowering and has grown upto 51/2 feet before pruning. Now the questions I have are -

Did I prune it right? Is now a good time to prune rose plants?

Should I fertilize the plant now using scott's roses and bloom?

Looking at the stem does the plant look healthy? If not, what should I do to make it healthy?

The plant was giving big light yellow flowers in summer, but was not looking very healthy. How do I fix it?

Help is much appreciated.

http://roses4az-mevrs.org/newsletters/ - if the current month/year isn't available, try another year for the same month. . . the monthly maint. does not vary year-to-year!

they have a lot of good month-by-month information on their website & in their monthly newsletters . . . I usually reference the current month's newsletter (there should be a downloadable PDF of it, a portion will contain "monthly rose maint." and it is tailored for the valley!)

They also do classes periodically and I believe now is the RIGHT time of year to begin your pruning and fertilizing schedule before summer comes back. . . I do know that you NEVER want to fertilize a rose in summer in Phoenix from my personal experience and knowledge.

If you do that, you will stress and burn the plant during a more "dormant" season . . .

adi ...really need to know exactly where you are located. It does make a difference in your local. Secondly regardless how you pruned it, its done and just hope you did a great job. Next year maybe watch some videos on the internet that will help. I know it helped me. I fert my roses just about all year except for Oct, Nov, Dec. It just depends where you are @in AZ. So if you could provide ...Where you are...What is your water set up...Besides the Scotts what else...Spray??? etc. I have included a picture of a few of my roses so you will know I do get it.
