Hosta U 2014

A couple to think on today:

My biggest problem with time travel is: How many days would you pack for?

Can a 3-D printer make ink cartridges for a 2-D printer?

U know I want to see your Us:

Ulysses S. Grant, one of our more colorful Presidents, first year. I also went to Grant high school where McTavish may have gone too if she did not move.

Undulata Univittata early spring. My walking buddy took a bunch of pics in my garden early spring and I just figured out where they were stored on my iPad.

Paula, I am shocked - how did you know I would have gone to Grant? That is so funny. I went to JB Monlux in elementary school and moved when I was ten. Did I know you then? I did have a friend named Paula who lived down the street.

McTavish I went to Monlux too for my kindergarten and 1st grade. 1960ish. I lived on Victory and Bellaire. I did follow someone home once wow but sure got in trouble for it. We chatted briefly once about people who had left the Valley.

Thanks for the Ulysses S. Grant, ilovetogrow. I've always wanted to see a live one. Does it need whiskey to thrive?

(For those who don't know, someone once told Lincoln that Grant was a heavy drinker. Lincoln, who was already impressed with Grant's generalship, replied: "Find out what he's drinking so we can supply all our other generals.")

Are squirejohn and I the only ones with three different undulata?

Great job on that undulata pot, mbug!

Really like that photo McTavish---with the one with the mature Unforgettable leaves.

Undulata Is it Univittata or Mediovarigata?

This is a very special undulata albomarginata. This is the one that triggered my hosta love.

In spite of almost being covered by the bbq, and now the compost bin, it comes back reliably. All it asks of me is water. When I realized how easy it was to grow, you could have seen the little cartoon hearts spinning around my head as I admired it. I knew it was called hosta and that I needed more!

Here are: H. Undulata,Erromena, Univittata and AlboMarginata not in any particular order but identified in first pic of each set.

This is the fastest posting I have ever accomplished! I'm impressed! I have also bookmarked this "new" site as I had done with the GW site

I immediately see an advantage - without having any other photo app like Flickr or others, this site allows multiple uploading of pics in one post - it is "fast and furious"! LOL but it really is, folks!

Well I guess I am about to find out.

Was not going to add another Undulata Univittata but here goes.

You have all very nice hostas. My concern right now is that I can not find all the posts of the GW Hosta Forum, or are all the others GW forums with the Houzz forums mixed together?

OK, so I went all out and back in, and there is the Hosta Forum, OK, all seems to be fine.

Peren.all, I love the mature look of yours. The leaves are wider, more heart-shaped(cordate) and so pretty to look at! I should stop dividing allow some of mine to mature! That is my Like on your Univittata :-)

I was replying to you, Bernd but deleted...and came back...at the very top of this thread click or poke at "Hostas" and you will find all other posts without exiting this page. I like the convenient "arrow", bottom right of this page to bring one immediately to the top of this thread. (Or "home"/t.o.p.).

They/Houzz should also add one on the left side at the top of this page so one can "arrow" or "page down". (My comments come from an iPad user perspective.)

Jo I think these like buttons will get used a lot LOL! Thank you! I never divide mine unless they are medio-variegated and reverting like my Reversed (in the R's). In that case if I didn't the whole plant would get lazy and revert to green. I want to see mature specimens. If I had two or more I would leave one alone and use the others to make more or share.

Thanks Jo, That clears that up. I wonder did anyone ever buy their Undulatas?, I have never seen them for sale.

Now that you mention it, neither have I. I bought mine from a nursery at least 11 years ago. The other Undulatas followed. It's tough finding the older cultivars.

Peren.all, I love dividing and usually have an older piece/mother around...somehow my Undulata didn't get the same treatment! :-(

I remember Paula/Ilovetogrow commenting on wanting a like button, among a few other of our peers. Yay, now we have one and I'm using it! Some pics/Hostas also rate not only a like button but also written "gushing". I just got a "Phil" moment! ... from using the word gushing.

    Miss him.

I wish we had the like buttons at the beginning of the alphabet.

The ubiquitous undulata Albomarginata. My property came with about 10 of these and about a dozen solid green noids.

Here it is in a mature mass planting (my neighbour's front yard)

marta that edge of hostas is fantastic.
