What happened???

I logged in yesterday after a prolonged absence and everything seemed alright.. Tried again this morning, down for maintenance. Now there is a whole new format and I had to change my user name. I'm not sure I like this, logging in is a pain and the new format is not easy to read. What do others think?

I agree, I hate the new format, not user friendly at all. I'll be viditing less often now.

If it ain't broke don't fix it is my motto, they now broke it with the takeover by houzz.

I mispelled visiting (viditing), is ee no option to edit.

    I think it sucks too.

You can't see you was the last responder to a post to see if it's worth opening again.

There's just too many other forums out there to deal with this.

The changeover made me verify via email and renter password - was not comfortable using a strange web site to enter my password. What was worse was even after the verify procedure I could not log on till the next day. May dump this site also as the format is strange.

Houzz is a GIANT leap BACKWARDS. Hard to login, difficult to see, and downright annoying to use.

Absolutely ruined a nice website. What a freakin' shame!!!!!!!!!

GW was never a good site to begin with, and Houzz is just new lipstick on the same old pig. If you want to see how a forum should be run, you should google dslreports or bitog .

It appears a lot of the knowledgeable people are looking for another site which is a darn shame. Anybody finding other sites with good a format, please keep us posted. It appears this "houzz" thing is more of a house furnishing thing that perhaps due to the costs of running a website is why GardenWeb went this route, to help with the costs

TractorByNet is a good one - use it more than this one

    My second choice is MyTractorForum

TractorByNet is OK but MTF is a for profit forum where posters surrender their content adding value to the forum which increases the profit of the owners of the forum. Moderators are far too self-important and frankly, too many posters are just too darn lazy to search and we had to answer the same questions over and over and over and over which is really annoying.

Gardenweb was a warm, comfy place with a simple and easy to use interface and a lot of good people who asked for help and a lot of good people willing to give it.

wus good while it lasted.... aka rcbe

I too had to re-register, will hang around and see how this goes. I mostly lurk on the topics as I have little to offer but much to learn, but still did open to the site every day. I spend some time on Gardentractortalk.com, they are pretty informed and a helpful bunch, so if this doesn't work.......

I've had no problems MTF and have felt it is far more useful.

Just signed up on tractorbynet, not GW, but OK, while we see how this sorts out.

    Thanks,

    Easy to post pictures.

Very disappointing, will hang around to see if it improves. Had to change unique user name I had in GW for years. MTF is excellent and just signed up for TractorByNet

Been there for years, not my experience at all.

    Walt,

I should have been more specific. My years at MTF were solely in the JD LT/GT forum and my experience in that forum is exactly as I described it.

Gonna be as bad as Facebook about changing stuff I bet...

This was a good forum. Too bad it's ruined now. "Garden Tractor Talk" is another alternative. - aka A-C_Homesteader

I miss the steam tractor picture up in the RH corner.

As a forum, "ppeten.com" is OK, but not nearly as good as it's predecessor, "perr.com". I really miss the stewardship of Bruce Perrault. I can understand his desire to retire after 46 years in the small engine business, but he has proven to be hard to replace.

I'd have to agree ggoyeneche. I occasionally would visit the Perr forum and found it useful and sometimes entertaining. Bruce had it laid out well with lots of useful info. A good place to look for a clue or a manual if you needed it. The PPETEN had even less going on that this forum and frankly is awful to look at. Blue and red? Readable home page? The McAfee virus protection called it an unsafe site still the last time I visited. I'll even take this bleached out format over that!

    Yeah, both sad.

I was surprised to see the changes when I received the notification email yesterday.
I visited the old forum because it had so many people were willing to help and with the right search, you could usually find an answer to almost any lawn equipment issue.

As long as I still see familiar users, I'll stick around and watch and learn.

Change is not always for the better but sometimes you don't get a choice.

I liked Garden Web so much I bought it. With Garden Web and my Yard Bug I'm invincible!

I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that GardenWeb has teamed up with Houzz. I find Houzz to be the most annoying website around. ugh. I so relied on Gardenweb and the community feel. Guess I will find other ways to gather information. Sorry Gardenweb! This was a bad mistake!

All I wanted was an heirloom tomato forum....now it's gone. Why would they do this?
Are there any other popular tomato forums?

well... it seems to be getting to be an old story... Garden Web must have been struggling so they sold out... and now they will lose even more.... we just don't learn. sad... I'm off to look for a new site that can help me with my gardening.

here it is almost February a year later for sure yet miss garden web just hoped to find something more or another good site. change is not always a good thing

I just logged in for the first time in a month or so; logged in okay, but had hell finding the tractor forum. I bookmarked, but don't have a lot of confidence that it will work. The forum is certainly not as user friendly as it used to be. I've been here (under a couple of different "names") since 2001, and hate to see what has happened. Anybody remember Fish?

I seen a Houzz commercial on TV tonight :-\

This is atrocious!! I went to log in to discuss problems with my tomato plants and got a bunch of freaking ads for decorators, etc. I want my GardenWeb back!!!

Yeah not as convenient as before , you could actually email also if you wished .aka Ewalk .

I simply cannot figure out how to search within a forum. Why or why would they make the search function so hard to figure out? So so bummed. Garden web was my go-to place for so many years.

When you begin typing your search query in the search box at the top of the forum, it gives you options where you can search, i.e. "tractor" "advice", etc. If you use "tractor" it will search this forum. If you use "advice" it searches gardenweb. If I really want to find something on garden web, I use Google search.

Carolyn Gwynn As a general rule if a thread has not been posted to for some time you should start a new thread. Your question, which is a valid question, will be seen by not as many people attached to this year old thread as it would if it was a new thread.

The Cub Cadets are really hot this year!
