Oh my!

Switching over to Houzz very challenging!

I sure hope we can all navigate these murky waters.

When trying to confirm my acct., the message was that I don't exist. So I opened a new acct. with a slightly different username.

Please don't all disappear.

My old name was already taken too so now I'm k8orlando2. I'm usually OK with change but I'm not loving this setup.

I know we've talked about this before and rejected it because some didn't like the idea, but what about transitioning our group to facebook? We could have a closed group, open only by invitation or to those who request to join. It's easy to post pictures, see responses to posts and all the things we do now. Something to consider...

Just checking to see how it works to post photos.

I'm hoping "write a comment" is the same as posting a reply!

I didn't have any trouble verifying my account, but so far don't care for the new setup. I'm sure I'll get used to it; it's just kind of overwhelming right now!

Does anyone know how to turn off the background music? It's not in the FAQs and I don't like it.

Another thing.......haven't found an editing option.

Since I'm already on FaceBook, it wouldn't bother me to have a group there, but I think some would prefer not to be on social media. I guess it's all about getting used to something different......and trying to finding what we had before that we may not have now. Sharon

Wait, there's music? I keep my sound turned off all the time, so didn't know.

I 'm here! Yikes! Finally......Hopefully this is posting. Change is always hard, but I like the clean format, I think. Let's all give it a chance.

I read you can edit your name back to what we know you as in the Edit Profile in the upper right. I want my Geezerfolks back :-).

Sharon, I'm not sure where the music came from. I restarted my iPad and it's gone now.

    I made it back LOL

Tried to edit my user name and am told it is already in use. So somewhere in the dark recesses of this site, my old name is languishing. Much like Kate's.

Are you all getting emails with all the posts? Or are they just the ones following the first post? Lots to figure out and get used to.

Searched and found the edit......geezerfolks is back and added sharon to it. Looks like it can be changed twice a year. I like the like feature, though. :-)

It has taken me all day, many e-mails, lots of hair pulling, 2 changes of user name, and password, but I am here. Finally got logged in, then when I tried to comment, had to log in again. Sigh.

Glad you finally made it, Beverly. I guess y'all can see I also added a picture of me.

I was getting e-mail notifications of posts before I could even log in. My in-box was stuffed. Found out how to turn that feature off.

I transitioned in without difficulty. Guess we'll see what shows up.

I think the new layout will take some getting used too. The white screen is glaring at me right now...need my sunglasses

Ok. So I suggest everyone goes to their 'profile' and review the 'advanced settings' page. This is where you identify what emails you receive on what kind of activities...

With that said, I got through there and then couldn't figure out how to get back to what we would consider our 'discussion' page (the list of posts). If someone can tell me how/where to do that, I'd be most grateful.

GW is located under the Advice Tab. You then have to click on the links on the left for Home or Garden, then click on the Forum. Not smooth, but it will get you back here.

There is also a tiny opt out link for msg notifications of the discussions located at the bottom of the page (to avoid getting an email each time someone comments). I'm guessing you need to opt in or out per discussion.

    Anyone know how to Edit?

So far, I don't think this is horrible, just different. The transition could have been a disaster. I am ready to try it on my iPad now. GW became impossible to read on the iPad.

    The white space is blinding.

Tried to edit my name, lost nannykins totally. Ah me

Ok I am getting emails from Houzz on every new post I do and on every existing post (someone else's post) that I comment on... I don't like that. Makes you want to post less on this site and just browse and read and not participate.

    Ok...that's easy to fix!

Click on the top right of the screen "your Houzz"

then on the top right "Edit Profile"

then from the menu on the left click "advanced settings"

there is list of actions and for each, how many times you want to be emailed...pick an answer for each action

I miss the color change when I have read a thread.

One of the things that's weird is that if you already had a sign on name with Houzz, it doesn't seem to recognize that for GW forums. I think I can't use k8orlando is that it's my Houzz user name! Yeah 'someone already has that name' - I do!

LOL Kate. We always knew you were larger than (1) life!!!

It wouldn't let me confirm grammyp because someone had it, that was me.

Oh my is right. I also had to change my screen name. It is now Stitches2. So far I am not impressed with this site.

Thank you Jennifer for your help with the email notifications.

    Best to you,

    Sandra

Hmmm...I've not had many issues...yet, but I'm known to be technically challenged at times...so far so good.

I'm deliberately not a FB user. Perhaps once I retire I'll pick it up. It's a good suggestion though and if that is the way of the Wandering Stitchers...I'll have an excuse to retire! ;/)

Bobby, aka vacuumfreak checking in... still recovering from the shock of l this.... yipes! I need to go pet a sewing machine or something! Going to try posting a picture just to see if it works...

WTHeck???? GOT here, but WHAT is that message up there???? HELP. I'm trying to find all of our threads.... This is going to be some kinda challenge for the techie challenged! (I'm in that group.)

I readily admit I am a facebook user (read: "junkie"). If you want to connect with me there, look for me as Kate W. Pile. Started a few years ago when DH Jim's family set up a group page and that's expanded to a couple other groups. I really don't understand why people hesitate to use it because it's easy to set up privacy any way you want it. The groups I participate in are controlled and private. I personally don't know anyone who has had any kind of bad experience with facebook. I'm not trying to push this group in that direction but if anyone has questions or wants to talk about it - whether it's for quilting or for any other reason - I'm happy to discuss fb with you and how I use it, especially the 'group' feature.

When My Family went out of business earlier this year, my techie daughter set us up with a Families only FB page. So far, it is working out ok. We have about 17 members and can invite more to join us. It seems safe enough.

Thoughts about this group forming a FB page... Does everyone have FB. Easy enough to get there, i guess. How would anyone not in the group find us. I know i found the Forum by surfing and landed here. A Happy Day! But if it is a closed group, will that eliminate future members??????

Lots to think about but not insurmountable hurdles.

So far, i think this site is working ok.

I am finding this site easier to navigate each time I check in. There are a lot of tips on the other GW forums. One feature we got back is the (different) color change when you have read a post. It changes to grey. I noticed the up arrow on the very bottom right -- that zips you back to the top of the page. I like that! I also like the Activity information. Spam is very easy to report (click little flag on the right of the post).

I do wish there was one place for a tutorial on general navigation of the new site we could refer to. Overall, I am okay with the changes. I think it will continue to improve.

Maybe some talented quilters from Houzz will join us. I prefer using an open Public Forum vs FB and hope our future here will only get better and we are able to keep our friends together.

Oh GOODIE!!! I see so many familiar faces here!!! My first checkin this morning was really a fright!! A post (now deleted!) was some big sales pitch for something (I cannot remember what, but it freaked me a bit!).....amazing what a few hours can do! Likely, if we all just cool our jets and take it one step at a time, we'll be back in a 'new' familiar territory before too long! ....remember, one step at a time!!! Yay for all of you who've made it back!!!! :)

I saw that post and flagged it, Beth. It was gone immediately, but maybe just on my computer. Don't know how things work yet.

Hmmmm I'll join the confused group. I'm waiting to see what my name is on this comment because I think somehow my Houzz account has been activated when I confirmed my gardenweb account... here goes...

Yup... That's what I thought... faytay here.....

Loisf signing in, only I'm loisflan now. I haven't had any trouble yet. Good to see you all here in this strange new world.

Hi everyone! Wow what a change! I hope we don't lose anyone with all the changes! I see my username has added _gw to it. I tried to change it back but it said my old name was taken.

Looks like we will have to learn a lot of "new" names.

Hi, everyone! I stopped in to see if the quilting thread was still here. My houzz name stayed like it was: sandlapper_rose so I am just trying to get used to the new features. I hope we can stay here and get used to it.

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

oh good. it looks like the masses are gathering! hoping that everyone can woggle thru and get back to our 'normal' fun forum... I'll back out of panic mode now.....I think!!!

We want to stay together so we will!

Glad to see so many making it through the maze of newness. I had some trouble initially - but a little tweeking and a small change to my sign in and I made it.

Thanks for signing in, Geraldine. I think we're hanging around, but not recognizing some of the names, unless, like you, let us know you changed to your Houzz name. I never even heard of Houzz before.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to start a new thread giving our Garden Web user name and our Houzz name. Useful as a reference until we all remember who is who.

I responded to someone here, but can't find the post. I had trouble with my name so I wrote to the contact us address support@houzz.com and requested my Garden Web name. They had told me the same thing, but I wrote to them with my Houzz name (lucky I still had the info in my keychain, because I forgot I had one!) colormeconfused. I requested my "quiltnhen" for the quilting forum and was granted the use of my name. Don't know for sure that it will work for all.

Once you are in, there is a page where you can look at your own personal information. It has an edit selection on the user name where you can go in and change it. It might only be what shows on the posts and not be the login but if you write your login down somewhere first with your password, you might get it to show your old name on the pages we see.

I do think the photo posting goes better than GW. Maybe they have a better "engine". Haven't tried to do the link yet, though. Maybe I'll try that with the lotto block posting I just did.
