It was already taken. I didn't like the alternative. I tried to change it to ChickenCoupe with a 1 on then, later, but it didn't work.

Hotmail has a junk mail section....the Houzz emails can go there and join all the FB emails that I dump every day.

Dawn, it's true. You don't have time to do FB :) Actually it is a matter of how much time you want to give it. You could just sign up and do OK Gardening and forget any other friends. Wait, do you have friends besides us???? :)

I have pinterest too...oh my goodness, I can see where that would be terribly addicting.

I do have to do Social Media for work. My friends would die laughing if they could hear me complaining about what a time suck it is. When I am doing it for fun, I don't care...but when I'm up to my eyeballs in work, I don't have time to search out relevant material and make catchy posts.

Anybody know if they saved the "clipped" sections? I had tons and didn't archive but half.

Lisa, I have Pinterest too, but I rarely go there. I love Pinterest, but it eats up all of a person's time. All of it. And then some more.

I've spent the last month trying to delete every bit of junk mail I get. I have unsubscribed from so much stuff it is ridiculous and still there's too much of it. I wasn't happy when I saw a gazillion Houzz messages in my inbox this evening. Hopefully I got that fixed.

Bon, I sure hope they saved them. Probably they are out there somewhere. If you cannot find them sometime this week, Tamara from GW is still with GW and ought to be able to help you. Otherwise, you might be able to Google your original GW name + Garden Web + OK Forum + My CLippings and find them that way. Maybe. I usually can find things on GW easier with a Google search than with a GW search.

Oh, goodness. You're right. I should be able to find the archives via Google. Maybe I'm just wanting to complain. I need to get over it all. *sigh

lol, Bon. Hang in there. I expect it all will work out. Or, we'll all go someplace else. That's just how it is. If they want to keep us here, they'll fix things, but we need to be fair and patient and give them time to work out all the issues. I don't want to leave GW and I am sure no one else here does either, so let's stay calm and count to ten, or a thousand, or a million, and wait to see what happens.

In the meantime, we are surely a kind, mild-mannered group here. Want to read the comments posted by unhappy campers before they disappear? Pop over to the Vegetable Forum where some of the comments on the changes are just flat out flaming hot.

OMG....SERIOUSLY!!!!! I absolutely HATE this conversion. WHO the H do they think they are???? ok, Lisa - I heard ya....I'm breathing and praying for patience. But it better come fast. This format sucks. Big, rotten. bug-laden rotten veggies.

Maybe Garden Web has been ruined by this, but we've got to give them time to fix it. Conversions like this never are easy and there's probably some things they thought would transition well, which ultimately did not, and probably some other things (like clippings) that maybe they didn't think through.

I don't like they so many posts on various forums appear to be disappearing. That's gonna turn people off and drive them away.

I'm concerned that old "long" posts are said to be cut off. I saved a lot by saving links to threads. A lot of good info will be gone if they are doing that!

That worked but I haven't yet found a solution for the cut-off threads. They have been discussing recovering clippings, including some that had been cut-off (lengthwise) by Houzz over on the Veggie Forum. I'll link that discussion below. Note that they give specific directions about how to get the right cached page by clicking on an arrow of a certain color. Hurry and find your stuff before the cached page disappears. Then, when you find it, save it to our computer somewhere outside of GW/Houzz. That way, you still have your info if GW/H ever (cough, cough) goes away. Here's the link: The Veggie Forum Thread With Info on Recovering Links/Cut-off Posts. I don't do clippings. Anything I want to save is bookmarked on my computer itself, not within GW.

If I had anything clipped (I thought there were 2 or 3 items) they were probably private. I used to think someone should make copies of Dawn's posts (and George and a few others) and make a book. Wish I had saved them now.

Paula - Think squash bugs. When the squash bug convention arrives we could line a box with a plastic bag and stuff if full of the convention members and, then, mail it to Houzz executive office. Okay, that's just mean, but it's funny!

Howdy folks! We'll see how this goes. The main thing I didn't like was having to wade through all that non-gardening stuff to get here. But maybe I won't have to do that after this. If new people have to do it, then I suspect that these forums will fade away.

Howdy George! Glad you found us here. I agree with you, and there is hope. I spent forever yesterday just getting here to this forum, but now when I click on "Oklahoma Forum" on my bookmark list, it brings me straight here, just like it did before....even though it surely doesn't look like it did before. So, if we can help any newbies just get this far in the first place, then it should be smooth sailing for them afterwards. Knock on wood.

Bon (and anyone else who had to change their user name). On the thread linked below, look for the post from Emily Hurley. It tells you how to edit your profile so that you can enter your old name and it will show up on your posts instead of your new name under which you had to register in order to get access. You can see that thread right here: Thread Containing Emily's Answer on Making Your Old Name Show I've seen Emily's helpful comments on many threads where people are posting Houzz/GW dislikes/problems, so she apparently works for this website and is spending a lot of her time helping work out all the bugs and get the info into our hands.

Wow. I just typed a post which is hard for me and then it disappeared with that oh so frustrating disappearing side scroll bar. Just my opinion but I don't like sites that have that.

Amy I have lots of old posts printed. I haven't always had access to a computer so I was prepared in case I had to do without GW.

Y'all should be able to find old posts by Googling. I do it all the time. That's how I originally found George's post on hand-pollinating squash after it had disappeared several years ago. Neither he nor I could find it by doing extensive GW searches, but it popped up in no time at all with a Google Search. That's why we joke about me being his secretary. Speaking of the squash hand-pollination thread, we need to find it and save it before it mysteriously disappears.

I agree, Bon. I really believe that with time all these issues will be resolved. We just have to pretend it is a stormy Oklahoma April, with twisters, severe Tstorms and large hail right and left, and then just wait it out the same way we wait out all those wicked storms (often in our safe rooms and storm shelters). The Houzz/GW storm will pass, we will regain a sense of normalcy, and the sun will come out again and life will go on. I am about the least patient person on earth, but I'm going to use all the patience I have to try to stay calm during this transition.

MJand kids, Where y'all been? Houzz bought Garden Web from iVillage and I guess we got the first look at the new GW beginning yesterday.

I've been lurking for quite a while. Haven't posted in forever. Came to read up on what you all were up to and...well...I'm not sure how I feel about this change. Still trying to figure things out. Glad it looks like the group is still together though.

Well, we're still here and still doing all the usual stuff....wanting to plant and loving the warm weather, but trying to reign ourselves in because surely winter is not done with us just yet----you know, the usual winter drill. We're all still trying to figure it out too here with this new format. You know us, we stick together through thick and thin, ice storms and wildfires, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, hail and high water....and dust storms and drought. It will take more than a new format and some odd quirks to send us packing and, if frustration sets in, and everyone begins migrating elsewhere, we'll find a way to let everyone know somehow. Due to our group orders and spring get-togethers, various members of this forum have a pretty good collection of other folks' email addresses. I'm betting that we'll get used to GW being a part of Houzz and will stay put. We just have to adapt to the changes and give them time to show us that GW still can work for us.

Yeah, I've been brave enough to do the onions under a low tunnel, but I'm trying to hold off on everything else for a little while yet. I will say for this new format, it seems I can go from a message in my email over to the thread pretty quickly, so I like that. Other things sure seem "quirky" though. I guess it'll just take time.

Okay, I have to say that most of what I've observed in the new format is an improvement. It is easier to insert photos and I simply LOVE the fact that I can return and edit a post. If we can keep adding new members, meaning, if they can find us, then I think this new venue is going to be really good.

I too think it will be ok. My first reaction was noooooo I have lost the only people who understand my obsession/addiction. Once I finally got in I calmed down a lot. Now I just want to figure out the benefits of this when I have time to spare, away from the Oklahoma, vegetable ,harvest groups. There are probably some really good points here.
