Is there a Houzz Tutorial or procedures for using the app?

Also, if I want to "Edit" a submitted comment, it sometimes takes my cursor several hovers to light up the edit button, and sometimes I have to hit the button several times to have it recognize that and bring the comment back into "edit" mode. It's not consistent about that either.

Thank you Emily for your response. I had figured out how to do all of the things you mentioned. The question I had about photos was how to save to my own photo library. My usual tactics didn't work on Houzz. Red has answered that.

I still think there should be a tutorial. It could be started by taking the answers to the FAQs, copying them and putting them in a logical, new user sequence. With all of the helpful users here on Houzz, it might even become a community project. I must say, though, that I think it's primarily Houzz's responsibility, not that of the user community.

I appreciate your input and "presence" here with us. I love Houzz and what it does provide. The tutorial would help your users and perhaps keep more of those your site attracts.

Completely understand. A tutorial would be helpful for some of the features for sure. As you might have seen in the last week or so, the interface is updating based on feedback on a daily basis, so there may be tutorials coming, but we do want to have a stable experience first, so that it isn't immediately out of date when another tweak is made. Hope that makes sense!

Hi rredpenn et al., I have been asked about a "points" system/feature that apparently GardenWebbers are seeing but I don't have that anywhere that I can find. Anyone know anything about that and where and what it is?

rredpenn - sorry I've been AWOL! Just too busy right now. Been on my reg, laptop, but didn't have time to try your instructions. I'll be back!

Whynottryit--A points system? No, I don't know about it. Can you find it and post the link? And dang, the editor ate a line of my line of text again when I went to fix a typo. I thought that it was working better...

Agree with Emily that it makes sense to wait until features are working reliably for all before putting together a tutorial. Until then, this section of Houzz (Using Houzz) is hopefully answering some qq's for people... :)

That was pretty much my reaction when I was asked about it. I can't find whatever it is they're talking about. I thought maybe it was the profile completed percentage but then someone asked was it like yahoo points. Of course I know nothing about those either since I don't use yahoo. Maybe Emily can shed some light on that subject but I'm out of bulbs.

Hmmmm...there is not a points system currently on the site. On the Advice page, you will see a Top Commenters widget that will show some of the most active and helpful users of the recent days, but we don't have an out an out points system unless someone snuck it right by me. :) If someone is mentioning that, can you ask them to write to support.houzz.com? I'm dying to see what this is. :)

Yeah, it baffled me too. Can you see any numbers for top commenters on the GardenWeb site? I'll try to find the thread where the question was asked and post you the link.

OK whynot...I went to that thread and tried to comment, and this happened to me... LOL I guess I'm not allowed. :) (They are smart to keep my big mouth out of there! haha!)
Seriously, though. Here is the error I got after trying to comment (a few times, I might add.)

The "Points" system that they're talking about may be the "Top commenters" thing, or maybe it's the "Profile completion" percentage. I was going to post the following screenshots from my own profile page and from the general Houzz Advice homepage to ask them what they were specifically referring to.

Very odd. I'll see what happens if I try to comment. Be back in a bit.

Hmmm...curiouser and curiouser... it posted just fine for me. Just will have to wait and see if anyone responds.

So I was able to comment there, and whynot and I both posted about the "points" lol! Let's see what they are talking about...

I am more. confused than ever. I received emails from HOUZZ saying there were new comments here. When I pressed on one, I ended up at. a HOUZZ site that said How to Use HOUZZ on a IPAD". There was a spot to take me to the site. IT TOOK ME TO OUR DISCUSSION.... I tried going back to the first screen, but couldn't do it.
Tried again any number of ways, Got back to the page. Here is exact title:

"The best way to experience Houzz on your iPad"

Got there through Safari browser. I was thrilled to see it, but then astonished when it took me here, again. I guess WE are now the tutorial or place for Ipad tips....
I'm still reading notes from this thread and thinking about Q&A's. Tried again with photo for profile - no go. Boxes come up to get photos from My Library, which works on other apps, but still doesn't work here from my IPad. Haven't had time to play with it on laptop.

had to add htpp:// in front of link (for practice llvean.com). You can see above that it worked!
going AWOL again, real life gets in the way...

Still some of the folks I talk to are unable to post photos or links. I'm trying to get more info from them to pass along here... It seems there is still a problem with that, which is too bad. Photos are so important. :(

Ready for this? I changed some photo settings on my IPAD to do something from this thread on HOUZZ. Was using FaceBook today, went to a group to which I belong. Posted some info. for it. All went well, until I found my group now had TWO pages with different postings on each; a butt-in org. posted on the group page I has used, except I had actually done it MYSELF by making an error in typing our web site on the page; and I reported each step of this embarrassment to others via email in indignation! Then, I looked at the photos on the first page to which I had posted, plus a different org.'s page that I had posted on - here it comes - photos on each site were of my entire personal camera roll... After my panic ebbed and I could think again, I restricted my IPAD camera / photo access, went in and was able to delete my new postings on each FB page AND my photos disappeared. I could breathe again. Who was it that said: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing?

Oh my word! You sound just like me. I would soooo do something like that but instead of being able to figure out how to fix it, I would be calling my kids in a panic and screaming hysterically for them to come right NOW!!!! (They are all grown, btw, have jobs, etc., so "NOW" could mean a while.) They also fuss at me all the time because they say "Mom, you're smart enough to do this. Quit being so afraid of it." Right. Good job in fixing it but oh my, I can really imagine the panic!

oy! That is a horror story, Becca! I know of a few people whose "Photo" button is STILL unresponsive. That just bites. :(

Hi there, Access to your camera roll should be an individual permission per app, so granting to the Houzz app, should not, for instance, give Facebook access to them. Sorry for any confusion!

I've been absent because of other demands, but - also because it is so frustrating to have to spend so much time trying to figure out the "how" of HOUZZ. If HOUZZ wants to keep its users, it's going to have to do a better job of intro and tutoring.

I'm sorry to intrude on this but I'm desperate. I've used my Houzz app for 3 years and never had a problem. Then after one of Houzz updates about 6+ months ago the word "post" disappeared when you are asking a photo question. I'm able to click "ask a question" and I'm able to write in subject line as well as type my question, but I can't post it because the word "post" is gone??? The shopping cart is still there but no "post". I've asked Houzz for help a few times but they never got back to me after they said they would. I TRULY miss being able to ask a photo question.

I have Houzz latest version and latest IOS version on my iPhone 5s as well.

PLEASE, can anyone help me? Please.

    Thank you.

I'm trying to remember what I did to fix a similar problem with my browser version...the "Submit" button disappeared on some of us, and we couldn't post a photo. It seems I had to resize photos to much smaller resolution, but that was after Houzz tweaked something to it I think.
Your problem is a bit different tho... and you contacted Houzz Support?
Let me get out my mini and see what mine does when I try to ask a photo question...

Are you looking at the Houzz photos, or photos in Stories or somewhere else? Hmmmm, let me go through the process on my mini...
On Houzz photos, there is that white "Information" button. I hit the "Info" button in lower right corner; it brings up a column on the right side about the photo, and some questions about the photo. If you scroll down through these, there is an "Ask a Question" button, right above a list of "People who liked this photo" list. Clicking that brings up a text box, like a comment box, to type in a question.

The "post the question button" is at the top right hand corner of that box. Are you saying that this is gone?

I just tried to post a qq on my mini, and the post button was THERE, but it did NOTHING. LOL

I'll send support a link to this discussion so they see what I just went through too. Perhaps they are still, and forever, tweaking this function?
Also, people are reporting problems with videos not showing up on threads with videos embedded in discussion threads on the Ipad (mine included) and in other web browser versions. That seems wrong to me too...

The differences between the app versions and the web version is still causing difficulties.

i am new to the houzzing project as of yesterday. my question is, how long in general does it take for houzz users to answer a design dilemma question? i posted one yesterday, but have had no responses. am i too eager? are there specific hoops one must jump through?

Alicope - I've asked a couple of design questions, one of which I received many helpful replies within a couple of days (and many months later) , the other, I think one person replied.
I'm sure it's just a matter of users interest, time and knowledge of your question that will get the replies. Don't take it personal if you don't get replies :)
Also when you ask a question under photo search, sometimes you will get a reply other times not. Such as "do you know where the couch came from?" This is more a matter of time and choice of the architect or designer etc that posted the photo, again, not that your question wasn't appropriate or shared interest with others, it's just hard I'd imagine to answer loads of questions.
My first suggestion, be polite. I'm amazed how rude people can be when asking questions. If someone posed a rude comment or question to me, I'd likely ignore too. Some people have forgotten common decency and manners. They demand a reply and forget this is a forum for help and info and it's free.

    Hope that helps.

@alicope... I looked at your dilemma question and see no real reason that you would not be receiving a response other than the right person hasn't seen the question yet. I did not see your dilemma when it first posted but I probably wouldn't have responded to that since I don't have the requisite knowledge to help you. I will "bump" the question and hope it pops it back to the top of the list but my advice would be just give it a bit to see if anyone responds.

thank you, jbof4 and whynottryit! it helps to have some kind of gauge to go by. very kind of you to "bump", whynottryit. i appreciate that. cheers.

    You're most welcome.

i have gotten loads of responses and lots of help, thanks to y'all.

I'm glad. I've been lurking there and reading the responses you've gotten. Still got nothing to help you otherwise but at least you got some folks that seem to have some ideas for you at least. Continued good luck to you!

    thanks.

jbof4--if you're still out there... :) ... I got a response from Support and they are looking into it, but may need more information. You can shoot them an email about it by going through their Support hoops. Go to Contact Us, under "COMPANY" at the bottom of the page here.
Click "Submit a Request" near the top. Under the "I need help with..." menu, click on "App Support". There, you'll get a box to fill in with a "description" comment box. Be sure to know your device and the version of the app you're using, and you can even link to this conversation so they can further read about your problem with the "Post" button disappearing on you. I hope this helps you, and anyone else who is having this same issue.

Rredpenn - thank you! I'll give it a go again :) you're very kind to try and help! I truly appreciate that.
    Good day to you.

I'm afraid that I'm not much help, but they did read my email about it, and asked for more info. I didn't know what to tell them about your particular situation. That is the usual problem...everyone, it seems, has a particular situation unique to their own system and set-up.

Alicope, your dilemma is interesting, and I love your avatar! :) Glad you got some turnout! Meant to mention that...I love the fact you want to keep the sink. My mom has one just like it. :)

I wanted to note that out of the blue I'm able to post since Houzz update I just did within the last week (can't recall what day) so it was a Houzz glitch as I had given up not able to ask photo questions under photos for over 6 months. I'm thrilled to say the least. Hope this resolved the problem with everyone else that had same troubles!

Wow, rredpenn, I think you deserve some compensation here! You have put in an amazing amount of time, helping people out with so many issues. Thanks for all the expertise so generously shared with all.

The issues people seem to be having seem to be on the Houzz side...updates that aren't fully tested, and reconciling all the different OS's and apps that Houzz appears on. My otherhalf is a software designer, and I have a bit of an advantage there. Just sharing what I can. :)

"Is there a Houzz Tutorial or procedures for using the app? "

Appears to me that HOUZZ needs a tutorial for their policies, processes and employees, with regard to customer service. Just spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out why I only get a blank screen when I search for something on Houzz. Good luck finding a contact that can help you, or won't just transfer you to another department. The last girl that I spoke to, after being transferred (8) Eight times told me "the site is working fine at my end". AYFKM?!

Okay... There is no link for browser (houzz-dot-com) on support.houzz.com. Only for app support. I use the browser version on my phone and tablet as well as on my laptop.

why does the houzz app no longer have a place to ask questions about photos?

Wiggly54, likely a silly question but did you tap the specific photo, then “learn more” then “start discussion”?

I did do that tap on more. In the past that would give an option to ask a question I don't see anything that says start a discussion
