Not good

There is something seriously wrong here. I just found out through person email that one of our favorites and active members is having their posts blocked by this new shopping site. To me, that's taking it one step too far, that's insulting and now I'm .... well... you know...

This is part of a post that was blocked (not mine but ottawa's) I'm posting part here so that those that are unhappy might go to c2c.

It's with a heavy heart that I say due to the shopping cart take over of our site I'm moving on. If you want to reach me I'm setting up stakes over on the C2C Forum. I've lurked there for years and if you take a look you'll find some familiar names. The Forums are for true Pepper Lovers by Pepper Lovers, no commercial crap. It may not be pretty and hasn't had a lot of activity lately but it's a site genuinely dedicated to peppers. I think a few of us could add a little breath of fresh activity. Seriously, a lot of my mentors (whether they know it or not) have frequented the site It's been fun but all good things must come to pass. For those staying, please keep up the good natured spirit of sharing that this forum was known for.

I too am quite displeased with this information. It's devastating to lose a member of such knowledge and generosity. I can't imagine what they could have done to upset the website administration. It truly is a sad day!

Hmmm... I've been wondering where a certain "knowledgeable" and especially "generous" member was. Maybe if he sees this he'll send me an email to let me know what's up.

Otherwise, Pam or Tim, would you mind Following me, assuming you have messages enabled, and let me know what's up. We can then take it to email if you fear they may be reading our messages.

WE THE PEOPLE ... that make a forum. Not the software.

As far as I am concerned, the ultimate goal in a forum to EXCHANGE INFORMATION and have discussions. In that sense I don't think there is a problem here. I still can express my views, start a thread, write a comment. Nothing is missing here.

Maybe there are secondary issues that can be handled by making recommendation to the site moderators. Admittedly, this is a less than perfect layout. Not a Mercedes but a Rabbit. But still a vehicle that can get you where you want to go. JMO

Yeah, but if they are blocking Bill's posts, then "we the people" no longer exist. I did notice on mine, when I clicked on my topic, my second post did not show up for awhile, I am wondering if maybe there was a lag in Bill's post. But, if they are blocking his posts, then I am not a happy camper.

btw Mecdave, I am following you and Tim... but, I am not sure what ramifications that will have here. If Bill has your address he will contact you, he said he's trying to contact everyone that he has email addresses for to let them know, I only got emailed early on because of my post asking him not to go.

Given that some members are experiencing problems, I hope there has been some sort of mistake here. I will miss the valuable comments and information from Bill.

Ah, I was wondering about scorpion_john. Haven't seen him post yet.

Bill, clear any Gardenweb or houzz cookies in your browser. Maybe that will get things moving again.

I don't know the person you all are talking about as I only occasionally pop over to this forum. So maybe my thinking is off. But the only reason I can think of for them not allowing posts, other than a glitch somewhere, is if they tried to post something with questionable language.

A couple days ago when I first came on here and noticed the new layout, I was shocked (as many were) and I created a post on the vegetable forum titled "These changes are f%$#ing ridiculous!". And while I didn't actually spell out the word, the post very quickly disappeared. Which is understandable.

Many people have expressed their displeasure about the changes and many have talked about going elsewhere and yet all these posts and people are still around. Not trying to contradict what anyone is going through. Just saying it doesn't make sense that they would single out only one person.

It all depend on what one expects of a forum/message board. I come here to share what I know and learn from others knowledge and experience. so to me the changes made makes no big difference.

I'm pissed too. I, too, received an email from Bill and can't imagine what happened. Hoping it's just a mistake. I might follow him to C2C just for HIM. Bill's the best!

I find Hot Peppers forum , right here to be the most easy, user friendly and efficient to get around. It is just ONE page, no branch outs , no gazillion sub menus, like a big maze. Here everything is under one roof, one name, compact, efficient.

I wish departing friends good luck but I'd like them rather to stay or come back home. after a vacation.

I couldn't agree more. That's B.S. Hopefully, it's just a glitch in the system, because honestly, I couldn't see Bill posting anything so obscene to the point of it being intentionally blocked. Although I can't recall having any "direct" conversations with him, he really does seem like a great guy. Extremely knowledgeable and, from what I hear and have seen in his posts, very generous. I'm definitely a fan of his sense of humor. He cracks me up!

That being said, IF everybody IS leaving, TAKE ME WITH YOU! Haha! Or, at least let me know where everyone's headed. I've met a lot of great people on GardenWeb, and would love to continue these relationships.

Like Mecdave said, if anyone would like, I'll go into my settings or whatever and check/uncheck whatever boxes I need to for that to happen. I'm pretty sure I unchecked just about all of them because my stupid phone wouldn't stop beeping every 10 seconds, and I've only commented on 2 posts since "the change."

why not go to thehotpepper.com? much more active than c2c

I am a member there also. There's plenty of me to spread around. :D

There was nothing offensive in Bill's posts, he sent them to me. I am not sure why they removed them. Maybe Mecdave is right about the ownership issues. I agree with Bill, my photos are my photos, although I don't care too much who uses mine, I've found some of my dog photos all over the internet (only one that bothered me was of my bred-by owner handled boy who died an extremely tragic death at 3 yrs old- a nasty bug that killed a lot of dogs in the area and they still don't know what it was .. still haven't completely gotten over that one and it's been 10yrs), but that doesn't seem to be a reason to delete posts.

I'm on both c2c and the hot pepper forum, but I agree, I prefer the simplicity of this site, both the hot pepper site and c2c just seem too complicated, too many headings, sub headings..

Thehotpepper.com has become a place to sell rather than a place to converse and that is what this site is becoming. The c2c site is still just plain Ole pepper heads talkin about peppers. Although it is mostly quiet it certainly has the largest amount of experienced growers. When I first went to that site years ago it was by invite only not sure how they do it now. C u there.

Just want to reiterate that my previous comment was only a theory based on my own personal experience with having a post removed. And that theory seems to have been wrong. Didn't mean anything by it.

A little bird told me there was "a bit of an uproar"
over here about my leaving. I decided to pop in to see what the heck was going
    on.

    Wow.

While I'm touched that some of you feel upset, it pains me
to think that I've caused some ill will
beyond that already created by the change. Please, let this go. The last thing
I want to see is all the positive energy created by such a great group of
people start to evaporate on my account.

I made a personal decision to move on. In no way did I mean
to imply others should as well. I just wanted to let my friends know where to
find me. I guess using Douglas Adams' Dolphin quote as a title was a little
over the top for the new owners ;-)

Anyhow, by now I think you know where to find me going
forward. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can help out in any way.

I wish you all great success with the up coming season. Now drop
this and go tend to your seedlings!

    Bill

Glad that you popped in Bill. Thanks for the email too. You're a very knowledgable and generous person. If not here on GW, I'll see you at your new home (I signed up today).

Now off to check my seedlings!
