Just a little test post -

last modified: 10 years ago

I'm trying to see how the new posting works. First, let's try a nice photo, just in case anyone went to the trouble of reading this post.

Oh, that worked, I think. I like it. It's a much more modern way to post a photo than the old GardenWeb way. I'm going to call that an improvement.

Now, can I use HTML tags to get italics or bold-face text? I'm guessing that HTML tags aren't allowed any more, because of security issues, I think.

How about alt-codes? See if this works: °F

I think it did.

Hmm, there doesn't seem to be any preview. I think I'll miss that.

OK, let's post and see what happens.

So, HTML tags clearly don't work. I'll miss those a little bit, but nobody else seems to allow them anymore, so I guess I can't complain.

The 'like' button could be useful, ala Facebook. Sharing could be useful.

I guess I have no real complaints so far.

I'm mellowing a bit, when I came to this forum the other morning and saw how drastically it had changed it kind of knocked the wind out of me, so much I didn't like. It was like losing your comfortable old shoes and were stuck with a new pair that not only pinched but were making blisters, not a happy camper.

Since then I've heard it mentioned that we could have lost GW altogether if houzz hadn't picked it up, so thank you houzz for that, GW has been my home away from home for quite a few years and I'd be lost without it.

Now it's a whole new learning curve for me and unfortunately I'm a slow learner. I finally was able to post a picture without any help on the old site when they did that little change, you could only add one to a post but hey it worked for me.

Now, when you click on the little photo icon bottom left is something supposed to open up where I can drag a picture from my desktop to like I used to be able to on the old site. When I click on the photo icon nothing happens, what am I dong wrong?

I will give this a try. But GAWD how I hate change at my age.

whoa! this whole place is so different! like you I am trying out a post. Ok that didn't work, how did you get the picture to show? I did the photo button and my pictures came up and the one I opened didn't work!

I've found the support people to be pretty responsive and helpful, which is head and shoulders above my experience with iVillage. I wonder if the Houzz people laid on extra staff for the changeover, or if GardenWeb is such small potatoes that they didn't need to.

    ok, trying again,

    Yay! I did it!

Hi, Roseberri. It sounds like you did what I did. Click on the photo button, then the browse button, select a photo and click on Open. As I remember, it showed up fairly fast. After I hit Submit it showed up in the post.

I'll try it again on my iPad, if I can find a suitable pic. Here's one. Not my garden though.

    You did it. Good job.

Annette, not sure what's happening on your end.

I think I will need to practice with photos. Not sure how to size them. TM and roseberri-nice pics! I still wish we had a conversation side on the cottage garden forum. How do we ask someone? Home decorating got one!

Okay, I just submitted a request to add a conversation side like we used to have. We'll see.

Well when I click on photo nothing happens but if I click on Houzz Photo it opens up a place where I can drag a picture from my desktop to. Is that what you guys are doing.

Nope, Annette, I'm just clicking on the Photo button. Whatever works, I guess.

Cynthia, I don't know if you have any control over sizing. So far, it looks like all of the pics in this post have come out the same width. Good luck with the conversations request.

It took DH 2 seconds to find out what my problem is, my browser. He's going to switch me over to a more updated browser when he has a few minutes. I'll try again later.

Yes it did. Good job, Annette.

    Lovely!

You did it! I think it will be ok here once we get used to the changes.

    Beautiful pictures, everyone!

Part of what we all love about GW is the family atmosphere, and how everyone cares about one another. That very caring attitude and our team approach is going to help us adjust to these changes just fine. Together we can do anything.

And for Thinman, there are now buttons at the bottom for different font types - bold & italics, even though it's not the old html code way.

Thanks, Babs. I hadn't noticed those.

Has anyone figured out how to change fonts? When I copy and paste, I'm nat able to make the match the text here - minor problem, but it now copies exactly what I copy and paste... :(

    Nancy.

Okay I will be brave and try to post a photo.

    Oh boy that was easy!

Midnightsmum, the text will self-correct form to match everything else when you push submit, regardless of what it looks like when you paste it in. You have no choice as to text font or color or size, just whether it is bold or italics via the buttons below the post box.

Citytransplant, I don't know how you view it, but your photo is sideways for me. (I can click on it and it is still sideways.) Do you post directly from an iPad? I put photos into my computer and use iPhoto to get them turned right side up. I don't know if there is photo manipulation software for iPads.

My turn to participate....Love all the pictures above, so nice to see flowers. I'm in Nova Scotia and we've had a very demanding winter, so much snow, unbelievable. This is my neighbour plowing my driveway. You can only see his snowmobile helmet.

Wanted to ad that the picture was taking this afternoon March 19...

Wow! That is a crazy amount of snow. It's going to take a while for all that to melt off. Keep the faith that the green will finally come, just a little later this year.

If you have an iPad or iPhone try shrinking the photo a bit 4:5 I think it is on my iPhone will shrink it just enough that it doesn't go sideways at least that's what seemed to help for me.
