1938 bungalow needs a facelift!

My fiancé and I just bought this cute 850 sq foot house. It has great hardwood floors and is in great shape, but definitely isn't the most architecturally interesting home. I'd love it if we could discuss
color options for the exterior! The white windows are brand new, but every other color can change!

I have plans to xeriscape the front and back yards (since we live in northern NV and get ~7 " of precipitation a year). If you have sun-loving high-desert plant suggestions, please share. :) maybe a fence out front?

I'm open to really bold and bright color combos. No more beige and brown for this girl.

And this is a beautiful example of xeriscape design -- if there is a grass similar to this one that would thrive where you are it would be wonderful to work with.

Congratulations! That's a cute little house, and as you say, it seems to be in great shape. Landscaping will definitely help, and probably shutters as well, at least on the front. You could add a wood rail on the stairs to match that on the porch. I'm also in a desert area with about the same rainfall, but much farther south (Mexico) where it never freezes. It's hard to know what plants to suggest, but I like using interesting rocks as well as cactus and other local desert plants and trees. What colors do you love? Reds, oranges, ochres ... or rich blues and greens ... or ...? I really like jewel tones (deep purples and teal) but I've been leaning toward brighter colors for outside. Bright green, various tones of red or coral, maybe even yellow. A friend of mine said she thinks the house has a "blue aura". :)

I LOVE this http://houzz.com/photos/1013435 but I'm not sure I'm ready to take that plunge yet. And I think the fiance definitely isn't. Something that incorporates a few bright colors would be great, though.
We live in a university neighborhood where a few homeowners have already gotten creative with their houses. This place was a rental for years and years before someone flipped it and sold it to us. The yard was just a weed patch.
I kind of just want this old girl to be the prettiest one on the block.

I love the Salsa House, too, but yeah, it would definitely be a plunge! What if you tried (say) the deep blue with ONE of the other colors (green, coral) and started playing with it? I love the examples in your ideabook, too. That yellow-gold house with brown trim is adorable.
