Oh my. This is a "super" challenge. Do you have windows behind the sofa/chair? could you post a photo of them, say one at an angle - so we could see a bit of the fireplace wall as well as the wall/windows behind the furniture? It is quite the soaring space.

We do have windows. I will post a couple other photos.

You should put a big round mirror in the middle of the fireplace or a big painting for your focal point instead of a small clock. Usually with a drop ceiling like this, we suggest to add book shelf on the right end. You could also use floor to ceiling drapes.

I would suggest tall mirror over the mantel and a tall corner bookcase in the same finish as the FP and stairs. Perhaps you'd have better options for arranging furniture if you housed a TV in that corner. Remote control fabric roman shades would warm the space a bunch!

Built Ins on the right is logical as well as above the fireplace.to the left side of the fireplace continue the same wood or color of the built in, retain the same height , but wall mount the ' frame' to include artifacts . ex art items

My in-laws have a similar fireplace wall and have used two very large, very vertical framed works of art (actually antique Japanese prints) flanking the fireplace, with a smaller vertical painting over the mantel (smaller, that is, than the flanking prints. but considerably larger than the mirror you have there now). It is very effective and covers much more of the upper part of the wall than built ins probably would. The prints are about 7- 8' tall and maybe 3.5 - 4' wide. Modern tapestries or antique rugs in roughly those dimensions hung on the wall would work in the same way.

Hi - well people have been busy! I comped up your wall color on that wall added the larger round mirror and got you a book case (in the wrong color - I can change that). It's a bit of a starting point.
I do think I want to try a hanging over rather than a mirror, a tapestry, just to see ...and of course (and especially with a wall of that size, with so much light pouring in ... ) get samples before you "really" paint. Really, really :-)

You might want to try a colour blocking technique?

I'd like to see a patterned wall paper on that wall to continue up the stairs. Otherwise the wall along the stairs looks lonely. Alternatively, a medium dark accent wall, say in teal, would look great.

I also like the idea of hanging lights suggested by lessismoore.

Beautiful windows! Consider a strip of thick white moulding mounted where the windows break at the 1/2 way point and continue around the room. (See pic). This would help to break up that wall. You could also hang a light fixture to fall where the stairs turn, this would help to separate the stair area wall that pours into the living room. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Due to the expanse in both width and height of the wall I suggest accenting the height and breaking up the width with vertical trim in a similar color to the stair railing. Ideally, a matching wood stained the same color. At a minimum, two vertical 1 x 6's or 1 x 8's to simulate a chimney . . . You could add a 1 x 4 in the middle to give the trim some depth . . . The distance between the outside of the trim would be about 4" less or more than the width of the mantel . . .

. . . then place a vertical metal sculpture (metal - due to heat from the fireplace) above the mantel to (again) accent the height. We found a nice sculpture of "leafless" trees at Bed Bath and Beyond for $99.00.

I would build out and up a brick fireplace with a mantel. I would go to the windows and the same amount on the other side. that would even out the wall. Then a nice large photo or mirror above.
