I liked the blue comment. If windows are a standard size retail has all types/colors. If odd sized try blinds.com. They will send you up to 10 sample sized swatches free of charge. You can DIY or now they advert. the company has some local installers who would install them for you for a fee. If big box stores cut them to size for you be certain the edges are not rough. They have to be trimmed on both sides.

I would go with blue as well. I wonder if in addition to romans, you would want to hang drapery panels too. It would cover some of the wood trim. I like the wood trim but if you are feeling the room is too brown, then covering the trim would help. Blues and sages in the carpet too.

Blue and brown are great together!!! and I love the idea of panels too! The rug could be at the foot of the bed....with two of the bed's legs on the rug with the bed half on the rug and half not...

Oh goodness, you don't need to do much at all. Remove the black/dark brown valance and the shade. Try a Roman shade that has both the blues and golds that I see in the picture. Maybe an Ikat design?

On second thought, an Ikat design might class with your bedspread. A smaller pattern perhaps…but the blue/brown combo should be a hit.

I used to have the same problem with my LR, too much brown from the vintage wood furnitures that were passed down to us by my MIL, and brown from the wooden staircase. So, I painted the wall a light, sunny yellow, then bought curtains with colorful prints in blue, yellow, green and a little bit of orange. Seat cushions are covered in very light beige, throw pillow cases are in different shades of blue, light gray and green. It worked! For the first time my daughter complimented how I decorated our LR. I got all my inspiration just from browsing photos on houzz.

Thank you everybody so much! I really liked the idea of covering the wood paneling around the windows to remove even more brown. Now I just need to decide on a pattern for the curtain/rug that will complement everything. Unfortunately the windows are different sizes so I am not sure how that works with curtains. Does anybody know a good place I can buy them custom like that for relatively inexpensive?
