Looking very nice. I like the furniture placement with deco's idea. I like the subtle colors you have going on and wouldn't try to make it bright with color. I think the soft green, beige and brown are lovely. If it feels too close to the dining room, I think you could slide the whole group to the right a bit, so the sofa arm is not quite to the window trim.

Ann - we've been trying to get the sofa centered between the window frame and the bulkhead - just now achieved that. It may be close to the DR but if feels in better balance.

You could tie that lamp into the room a little better with some grosgrain ribbon in a coordinating color and a glue gun. Just glue a strip of ribbon around the very bottom trim of the shade.

Here's another idea for the wall...how about six or nine smaller frames above the couch to balance the window.

Also, I'd recommend pillows in a seafoam blue color for the chairs and maybe one in the center for the loveseat. It should give a nice pop of color with all the brown tones and match with your carpet.

I think it is going to take you some time to adjust to the changes in this room, which I think are pretty awesome.....you have such a good eye and need to trust yourself.....LOL. All your purchases these past days work! And well! I love the pillow and how it plays with the rug and the art and just all of that. COZY room, but still nice and elegant, too.

Hmmmm........I cannot forget about the trunk in the room and wonder if it could come out from under the ledges and over to the window side of the room? Or would that mess up the ledge wall big time for you? Like under the window to balance out some of the furniture and still leave room for the plant? Love the candle stick on it, too.

Deco, I remember the discussion about centering the loveseat and I agree it's a great idea, but when Sheri said it crowded the dining area, I wondered if it would make her feel more comfortable to move it over just a foot or so. I was thinking as long as the loveseat stays to the left of the window, it still might work, but maybe that's wrong:)

I have to kind of wonder if it should scootch down a titch, too, as when I look at the last pics and see the chair under the ceiling part that was being used as the boundary between rooms, so to speak, I think it might extend too far. I was not sure a chair would go there and I thought the couch would be that one piece moved down that far. Hey....worth a try?

Your new things look very nice. I bet you're pleased. I wouldn't go with 3 matching tables either - could you still change the order or is it too late? I actually think the table lamp looks pretty good.

Good to know the motivation behind the pieces you have. That way maybe people will stop trying to get you to do something you don't need to spring for until you're in your own home.

Me too! I was actually looking at some yesterday but thought they might be too casual in this room. But I really don't want it to be a real formal looking room either, I think that's one of the reasons people stay out of the room...none of my friends and family feel like they belong in there, lol!

I forgot to mention, I cancelled the coffee table set. I'll keep looking for just the coffee table.

Love the Praigo garden stool Deco posted. I wouldn't order the brown ottoman you found. You have enough upholstered brown furniture with your two chairs. I actually kind of like the idea of a metal and glass coffee table, then maybe one of the Praigo garden stools and your current table lamp. Mix it up a little.

Mixing it up will give you a more professionally designed look than going with any matched sets. I always see matched sets and big battery clocks as a way to opt out of real decorating.

Yes, enough fabric in the room and you are ready for a different texture now. I like the garden stool Deco found as it is unique and has more than one color and the colors look perfect with what you have now. And since your side table does fit and is a good shape and height, save the money and use it. Just not sure about glass for a coffee table, though........kids? Cats? Constant cleaning and then some.

Gosh, I almost think the pic needs to come down more than 2 inches, but hard to judge online. 6 inches from the back of the couch.

I feel like at least one chair needs a side table of some sort to help them feel a part of the room and that they are not just temporary, sitting there.

Since those chairs have low arms, a garden stool might work well for one of those chairs. Deco suggested some earlier. I think abbyjean is right about the art, 2" probably won't be enough. Six inches above the center of the sofa would be ideal, but definitely no more than 8" above it. The room really is looking very, very nice.

Will it work for you to use the same nail and flip the direction on the wall now instead of just propped on the couch? Figure it might if it is a canvas and then we can see it on the wall turned? Maybe turning it will make it the right height, too?????

A garden stool would be perfect. Low for the chairs, but still a place for a glass, cup or book.

I like that idea - trying to hang it vertically from the same nail. Easy to try.

Well, the distance from the sofa is great, but maybe I like it better horizontally. My hubby doesn't like me moving things due to extra holes in the wall so I do it when he's gone and he often doesn't notice, lol.

I love the idea of a garden stool but I might leave the space under the window empty. I love the current uncluttered look of the room.

You will be confused with all the advice.....I like it this way now as it seems to fill in the wall area better. When you lower it, it will be a nice distance from the couch, but lots of wall that will be empty, too. This way seems like a good use of space. See if others chime in and the good thing? It looks great while you are deciding.

I agree to leave under the window alone....especially since you have some display areas across the rooms with the ledges over there. Let the big plant have the space to enjoy. LOL

I do think you can go either way. Live with it for a bit and see how it feels. If you ever decide to go with horizontal, please don't use the same nail as that was too high.

If you would try one little thing for me. Move the chairs away from the coffee table to the corners of the rug, but not OFF the rug. Your seating group looks a little too crowded toward the center. In any case, there should be about 18" between the coffee table and any seating area, for comfort when sitting.

Nancy's 18" is the max distance that is comfortable for reaching the table to put something down. If you get a garden stool or so for the chairs, they can back off a bit.

Yes, that is right. I was just commenting, because the spacing she has now looks a little tight. As in I would probably be banging my knees and knocking things off the coffee table, LOL. But that's just clumsy me.
