Bosch Benchmark slide-in induction range

I am pretty committed to going induction with our remodel. I thought I had settled on the Electrolux, but there were some things I wasn't crazy about with it. I was in an appliance shop yesterday and saw the Bosch. It's a great look - more pro looking without so much metal edging around the cooktop. It's also cheaper than the Electrolux, but all 4 burners have the high power option and timers. The oven controls are on the front - but the cooktop controls are up with the burners. It also has a warming drawer that operates via kicking/pushing it in, which is kinda handy.

Any thoughts about the reliability of these ranges? I'm googling around, but thought I'd ask specifically here.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, hvtech. That's really good to know.

I have one. I got it last May. I am very happy with it. The only problem I had was a slight problem with the warming drawer sticking. They came out and it's been fine ever since. I also purchased an extra rolling shelf for it. That took four months to come but I love them and it was well worth it. If you have other questions please let me know. We use the warming drawer occasionally. The oven is very large. I like the "burners". I love how fast I can boil water for pasta!

Thanks so much, dancing queen! It's good to hear from someone who has it. I actually do have more questions. Like, off the top of my head:

    Is it easy to clean?

Have you used the oven self-cleaning option? If so, did it all turn out well?

Are the burners hot when you are done using the stovetop?

Can you put parchment paper under the pans while you cook to keep the top clean without fire risk?

Do the burners make clicky noises?

When the unit is plugged in but not being used, are the controls lit up?

Do the "burners" turn a color or light up when in use or stay black?

I don't have the Bosch but I have the Electrolux, and they all work pretty much the same so I can answer some of your questions.

Yes, induction ranges are very easy to clean because of the low heat on the cooktop. Unlike electric radiant smoothtops, it's very hard for stuff to bake on to the glass.

Burners hot after using... it really depends on what you were cooking and for how long. The burners themselves don't get hot, but heat transfers to the glass surface from the hot pans. Sometimes it might be hot enough to burn you if you touch it immediately after cooking. But it gets much less hot than electric radiant smooth tops and cools down to a safe temperature much more quickly. The heat spreads away from the burner much less.

Yes, you can put paper under the pans but you do have to be careful. I have used paper towels with success in the past, but when cooking with very high heat I have seen them get singed.

No clicking sounds while cooking, but at high power levels I get a small buzzing noise from the pans sometimes. Nothing bothersome.

Induction burners don't glow red or anything while they're on, but the range will have indicators to let you know if a burner is unsafe to touch. They might be "Hot surface" lights, or it might display an "H" or something in the burner display after you turn it off.

Can't speak to the Bosch specifically but on every range with electronic controls I've ever seen, it displays only the clock while not in use, though that can be turned off. On all the ranges I've seen with backlit buttons (mine included) they turn off while not in use.

I ordered the Bosch Induction range last week. It will probably be close to a month until I am ready to have it installed. I am coming from a conduction range.

Steph. Here's my answers to your questions.

I NEVER use the self clean function on any oven. I've just read too many horror stories about it destroying the electronics. I have cleaned this oven probably 4 times since I bought it and wipe down the racks every week or two. It is easy to clean. I used vinegar and water. Sprayed it on, let it sit a bit and wiped it off. I also will sometimes put a pan of water inside and heat it then cool it down and wipe down.

The burner is hot for a few seconds after you pull off the pan. an h appears by the control to remind you it's hot. It cools down really fast. The "hobs" do not change color.

Yes, I put parchment paper down to keep the cooktop clean. I've never had anything burn although if I am on a high temp I will put the parchment around the "hob".

No clicking sounds. I have a few pans that have a low hum. My husband cannot hear it at all. It is not significant and you have to be right on top of it to hear it.

The front panel only shows the digital clock time when the range is not turned on. It's fairly small. Nothing else is lit up or shows. It's blue. I could send you a picture if you would like. I've not yet posted a picture on this site so I would have to figure that out or email it to you - which I know how to do

Let me know if there are other questions. I like it. I would buy it again.

I almost bought this range. It is very clean looking. I decided on the GE slide in induction though. The Bosch cooktop controls are very small and you used the same button for all burners. I am a little older, I would need my glasses and am not that coordinated to work it. Though in time, I am sure one would get use to it. I did think it was a very nice range though. I was able to play with it in a store.

I wanted to buy this range, So I found a showroom
near by. Big disappointment. The finish of this product is not up
to Bosch standard. There is a mental piece in from edge of glass top that is
not finished. It feels like some one just cut the piece and put it on the range.
all corners are very sharp. if one not careful when clean the range, one might
cut hands.the glass cook top has sharp corners and seem not been sanded at all. Now I am considering GE

Mine does not have a sharp metal piece. All the edges have a slight curve to them so you could not get cut on it.

I have the Samsung induction flex duo but not installed yet due to renovation delays. I'm crossing my fingers on this one as it is new, but I really like some of the features.

I did looked it up again at another appliance store, it looked very nice, all edges are finished. But I decided that I like knob control better. I went with Miele and ordered a Miele induction range. Can't wait to get it delivered. Have my fingers crossed that Miele will live up to it's reputation.

Does the bosch slide in induction range have finished sides? I am interested in this range or the GE slide in. It appears that the Bosch has more cooking surface than the GE does. I have thought about a freestanding but if I could get either of these at a good price, I might just spring for the slide in.

Check the parts diagrams on the Bosch website:
    http://www.bosch-home.com/us/store/spareparts/30InductionSlideinRange/HIIP054U/01

From the parts diagram, it looks like a partial side panel rather than a full coverage one.

Also, you might try contacting dancingqueen if Houzz allows messaging the way that the old gardenweb did. If Dancingqueen doesn't see this question here, you could start a thread of your own with the question in the title. That might be the fastest way to get an answer.
