MBR ceiling light or fan

Hi all,

We have a farmhouse/colonial that was built in the 70's. No overhead lights in the bedrooms, all switched outlets. Good news is that it's a pretty easy rewire for me to put a ceiling fixture in.

The bed is off center in the room so we have a couple dilemmas.

1) Light centered on bed, or centered on room? (leaning toward room-centered)

We plan on sconce lights flanking the bed for reading, but they won't be on switches.

2) Ceiling fan or simple light fixture? (leaning toward just light)

Wife thinks fans are a bit modern looking and the rest of the house is kind of traditional/farm/country. I'm inclined to agree. We might benefit from the air movement, but we are also considering an extra 16" of insulation in the attic, which might do the same thing. the central HVAC is pretty good.

The bed thing is what gets me the most. I'm inclined to center the fixture in the room, not the bed, since the sconce lights will provide task lighting when needed. Just not sure if that will look odd.

Thoughts and advice appreciated!

Anthony
