midcentury is IN and I wish more people would play it up - look at pictures in that style. You didn't show the ceiling much, but my bet is that the lights are dated - keep the clean lines and go with canned recessed light. I might change the cabinet doors, but keep the clean lines. New countertop, but Formica has some GREAT colors, and you would be within the time period. Remove the window coverings is you can - it darkens the room

I'm totally going to keep the 1960's Modern theme. I like to examples in the picture. I love the pendent lights over the counter. Do you remember where they are from?

Sorry can't remember the store it was in Spokane Wash. I think kitchens have come a long way since the 60's so as much as I like retro I think redoing a kitchen to work with our lives now is really important. A new layout with the fridge in a space that works would be the first thing on my list and get a kitchen designer who can think outside the box to make this a really great experience. Taking out the soffits to increase storage, buying a counter depth fridge to save space get rid of the drop down bar and use that space to widen the kitchen are all things I would look into.

Thanks! Storage that high is not practical for me. I'm pretty short, but I know what you mean, all I can talk about "is" swapping the fridge and the stove. Putting the stove in the center of that wall and adding a cabinet at the end so I have workspace on both sides of the stove. I have an additional 12 feet of space adjacent to what you see there in the picture on the other side of stove with another sink and Window. I'm planning to open it up to accommodate a new 36inch fridge.
