Albemarle Soapstone VA. No finish and not a lot of movement in the stone.

That place is so cool. We went on a tour there a few years ago; we live in WA state but my cousin lives about an hour from Alberene Soapstone (in Schuyler). Fun to see the working quarry. I wish we had known about them when we did our kitchen.

The cherry cabinets are beautiful. I also like the window to the other room. Neat idea.

Love the range wall - so open and bright! Your soapstone is beautiful. Are you going to oil it or leave it gray?

I kind of like leaving the ss gray, but not sure with the wall color. Maybe put in a backsplash with 3" or 4" square tiles with a mix of turquoise, green and yellow or brown (heath etc.). this kitchen is not an open floor plan so spots etc. don't matter so much.

How refreshing to see the warmth of beautiful wood and soapstone after so many white kitchens and marble. Nothing wrong with them, but your kitchen has the best brightener - all that natural light from the windows!

Natural wood and soapstone--lovely! Your appliances also wouldn't get turned away at my door. ;-) The faucet style fits so well with the rest of your kitchen. Your kitchen is beautiful and welcoming at the same time, as well as unique. Thanks for sharing. I rarely gush so much, but gosh, its nice!

Beautiful, warm kitchen. I love the pantry space maximisation around the refrigerator. A LOT of thought has gone into its making of and it shows. Wish you many many happy years in it. May I ask about the slab of soapstone next to the range? Is it a second chopping board?

whistle - Yes it is Ramsey Cabinet in Amherst, VA - very professional, state of the art with computer measurements, etc beautiful work, good price also.

Gemcap yes they left the soapstone slab so we have been using it as a cutting board - I could not bring myself to slice on my counters.

That's a really nice space. I also like the worktable used as an island. Is there a back story to that?

Lori - the worktable/island is from Habersham - I think it was a market sample that we bought at Green Front in Farmville - I like it a lot and wish they made cabinets more like this piece (more humble country). I'm not really sure that it goes so well with the new cabs, but it is such a functional piece.

I love everything about your kitchen, arch123. It's all perfect. The cabinets are really outstanding and love how the window trim relates to them. The room has lots of texture and exudes warmth. All that hard work really shows. So nice to see stained wood again, and personality, amid all the usual, beautiful GW white kitchens. As that old saying goes, variety is the spice of life.

Egads, what a pretty kitchen! I just love the integrated look of the soapstone sink with the counters, too. The drawers, the windows, the wall without uppers...it's really a great look!
