Bill, no shortage of water around here. Unfortunately most of it has been in 'solid' form.

Laura, those Sabals look like they are still alive! So glad to see that after all the snow and cold.

    Hi Bill,

You put the sweater away, grabbed the flip flops and headed to the pier? Nice... Fish Tacos for lunch? Ugh.. Killing me, Bill!! :-). Enjoy that sunshine for me!! I do think of you (chuckling ) anytime I open my mailbox!!!! Ha!!!! You deserve it!!!

Dave.. The Sabals are doing fine but the Pindos are suffering . They will push new fronds this summer. They were just getting over the cold temps from last year and

are barely hanging on, but I'm sure they will make it . Fingers crossed!

I hope you all are staying warm!! The roads are slushy here, but will freeze again overnight..

Sitting for L since schools are closed again. I don't know how working parents are coping with all of these snow days. ( Finding alternate childcare) If my daughter didn't have us around, she would be in a pickle!! Glad to help, but I'm going stir crazy!!

    Take care everyone!!!

Lol.. I tried to enter this pic at the bottom.. This was sent to me from a friend in DC.. It's at the ocean front in Virginia Beach. King Neptune In The snow!!! But it appeared in the middle!! I can't figure out how to delete the pic and repost. Glad it's the right pic!! Lmao!! ;-). Kidding of course...

Brrr is right Bill and Roxanne!!!

Nice to be back as well - I took time off for my family and was also ill.

I think we should all consider it a hibernation. March 1 is my typical date to bring things out. 34 degrees and raining this AM.

  • tdogdad

Can't hibernate- no winter here this year. I still have many leaves and one flower. I am already way behind because the surf has been good and now several hundred plants are needing considerable attention. I have not mixed any soil. I have not root pruned or potted up. I have only fed my largest 30 plants in the ground. I have not cut any plants or sealed any cuts. I have bought a truck load of supplies that are waiting for me. I am a month behind. Hibernation is not an option. (Laura) the flower is on Golden Rainbow and not Psycho, which lost its last flowers in a heavy wind a week ago. First time GR is last.

last golden rainbow fell off today 3/4/15. a record for GR. More flowers are coming but should not open for a week or two. Last flower of 14-15 winter:

Omg!! Golden Rainbow? Who would have guessed?

I would have put my money on Psycho!!! That was a record Bill?

Glad to hear you have more to open soon... We have fog thick as pea soup today.. Snow predicted for tomorrow!!! Don't even say... :-). I'm over the winter...

James.. Did I hear Disney ? Vacation? Lol.

    Enjoy that warm sunshine..

    Have a great day everyone!!!

YOUZA Bill, where did you get your Golden Rainbow? Sounds like it would do good at the beach? Morning/afternoon/all day sun? Another for my wish list? I paddled over 2 huge cuttings to our across water neighbor this morning making more ground room. :-) roxanne

Hey, it's like a family reunion around here! So nice to see everyone again!
Laura, I know you never really stop gardening, even in a snowy winter. Brrr! Those pics of VB are amazing.
James and Bill, always nice to see you around when you come in from your busy lives! We should be visiting the SoCal area this June and would love to meet up for lunch. I'll try to get my little guy into the ocean again this year, though he'll probably deem it too exciting for him, LOL! Let me know if I can bring you anything from Austin :)
Rox and Chuy, glad you're feeling better and looking forward to lots of new blooms! Can't wait for all the new pictures to start popping up.

Say Jennifer, it is about time you came out again. Keep me informed and I will hook you up with some beach toys for your son. No plants for me, as I am in a scale down mode. Everything is turning into trees. James has been a stranger lately due to too much work with his mom and some health issues. Perhaps this will motivate him to come by. We have been trying to hook up but both are so busy. Sherry has been even more busy between teaching, tutoring, and hula practices. Perhaps we can do a boat ride around Newport and then go have some nice lunch. Keep me posted and I will make arrangements. Bill

    HEY Jen & Bill!!!!
Almost thought GW Forum went the way of MPG based on the change and lack of activity.
Jen, so exciting to hear that your coming to LA! Where (what area will you be staying in?)?
I should be around till the end of June, but will be taking my mother to our family place in NYC so she can see the finished renovation I completed on the apartment last year, and to take her to some specialists, so will be in NYC till end of July or so.
Definitely excited to have a get together with non employees and people under 91 lol.....

  • jandey1

Yes, we're definitely due for a visit again! James and Bill, you guys are so sweet and make such a to-do over us poor non-Californian visitors--we really appreciate it!!
Still trying to hash out dates for me to take off work, but probably either mid-June or early July, basically just a long weekend. We'd like to take a couple of days at Disney but I hear it's terribly crowded in July. Probably June, too, LOL.
I know you guys are living busy lives, so even just a quick lunch or dinner on the weekend would be great! I'm trying to talk Laura into a visit, too. Will keep you posted!

thanks Rox. I have been a busy guy. Potted up all my older 5s (about 20)into squat 7s or squat 10s. Mixed 6 trash can loads of soil mix with my cement mixer. Transplanted 3 large plants into 25 gal pots. Transplanted Cindy M. from squat 7 to a 15. Bottle root planted 32 large cuttings. Have about 40 left to plant tomorrow and then I will be done. I will take pics when finished. I would say I am getting too old for this but then I visit Bud. No excuses. Just tired.

Hi Bill, Laura and everyone. Hope you all are doing well. I haven't been on here on ages either. 7 months ago we had a baby girl so that is one excuse. I also admit that I did try to log in a couple of times prior and was turned off by the change in format, having to "confirm my account", etc.

This spring got off to a good start though, most of my plumeria woke up pretty early relative to prior years. Not really looking to add anything to our small collection this year- just enjoying what we have.

I have been away also for a good while. Our eldest daughter passed away almost two years ago. Last season I just didn't care much about anything. But, I'm feeling better and ready to get back at it. I've lost all but two plummies. So, I'll seed start others. Hope to be on here more. God bless you all and God bless the USA.
