Stain or paint

To begin, our house is a spanish revival, and we are trying to keep some of that feel. We refinished our laundry room cabinets to a dark color shown in the photo. We want to do the same treatment to the vanity cabinets in our second bath.

Now we are seeing a problem with the doors and casing. I knew this issue would come up at some point because I wish all of it was white and just faded to the background. The door in the picture of the cabinets is a metal door leading to the garage. You can still see the difference in color between the trim and the cabinets though. This is the only instance where we could paint the trim white. Everything else has a door, door frame and casing trim of the same medium brown. (See other picture for typical door. ). The cabinets are hideous and are much more dated looking than the doors. The bathroom vanity must be updated.

What do you suggest as a solution? Please comment on why you would do what you are suggesting.

Stain the doors, casing and frame the same color as the cabinets

Paint the doors, casing, frame, etc white

Leave the doors along and deal with the fact that they dont match

Work with what you have! White trim isn't all that great either ;) You love the look of your new dark cabinets. So use that with the rest of the doors. Painting interior doors is a fantastic designer touch in ANY home! Spanish revival style has A LOT of wood, and most of it is medium to dark. You can use that to your advantage. Even pick a neutral taupe like the door in the picture that you can use on all doors throughout the house!

Stained doors and molding make area look chopped up. Painted molding is more traditional look. Stained door and molding currently competes with new wood tone on cabinet. Wider Baseboards could add to over all ascetics. with trim and door painted, I would not be afraid to some color to the walls for warmth. If you do want to keep the stained woodwork, consider wallpaper, it allows you to find common colors in design to include both wood tone colors and pleasing background color.
