I have several roses that winter well for me and have a LOT of green wood. I never take these bush's down below my knee's. I usually start at my waist and look at the bud eyes and start to shape the bush accordingly.

Prune dead wood and I usually prune back 1/3 of each of my HTs.

I have the feeling that a lot of pruning advice is for mature bushes. This is my first year to prune, and I have some bushes that I'm not pruning at all, which is fine since we are about to get the coldest night of this winter. I'd like my plants to get larger, so I'm thinking very light pruning to encourage larger bushes.

I think I've watched every pruning video I can find and don't have a clear answer.
