It looks a bit like "80- style to me ,and I recognized the Leons logo. They don't carry quality furniture so I hope that this one is at least real leather -not bonded because it wont last!

Its hard to see the real colours in your room but I don't think this cream will complement those striped chairs but with everything else it should work.

thanks for the reply. the striped chairs aren't ours. I forgot to mention anything in the living room would be cleared out as we had not yet moved in there.

yup its real leather. I attached another picture that's a bit better and provides some details.
we did some measurements and it does fit perfectly. but I guess just wondering if the style and color would work with everything else.

    thanks!

Keep looking. The style doesn't really go with your new house. Consider a sofa and two chairs instead. You will have much more choice in placing the furniture and adding important comfort pieces like tables and lamps.

You have a "tight" space and the sectional will limit it to one configuration. If you have 750sf of "Open concept" to play with before you got to the kitchen/dining area, then go for it. You seem to have limited space.

A tight space like yours does much better with separate pieces in smaller "appartment" sizes. The sofa you are looking at is well suited to a 1000sf basement rec room...

That large, overstuffed style is very dated. Way too big for your space. Try to find a more transitional style sofa in a beautiful fabric.

Sorry, didn't read the comments above. Looks like something we had in our basement when I was a teenager in the 70s.

OMG! That sofa reminds me of the monster that ate Manhattan! way too big and bulky for your space! It would totally overpower your room...and trust me, adults don't like sitting side-by-side on a sectional...they prefer to sit across from each other so they can talk...and usually only 2 people are really comfortable on a sofa. You have an attractive cozy space there, but you need smaller, more streamlined furniture so the room doesn't overpower the space. Look for straight lines, and thin arms...and feet!! no fabric/leather to the floor please...that is so dated. Legs are timeless (at least that's what my hubby says...Just kidding!)

Sorry, but I feel that room feels craftsman/industrial/farmhouse and I don't think that couch will compliment the style of the room and kitchen. If you like leather, I would look for a smaller sectional that had more modern lines. To rest your feet, add a large ottoman coffee table (can add a tray and accessories or when need for your feet, remove the tray). Good luck with your decision.

hahah yeah it is huge. i didnt realize it was too big for our place, when we went to look at our place it seemed pretty big and would fit that.

umm as for adults sitting side by side, we don't really mind it. had no idea people still sat in living rooms to just talk lol.

the area there is mostly for tv/sleeping/other stuff, but not just a sitting across and talking to each other (that would feel kind of awkward wouldnt it?)

awesome thanks for all the comments :) appreciate it, i will definitely take this into account!

the couch felt so comfortable though, haha.

There will be lots of others that are too! If you loved it and knew it was the one, you may not have posted. When you see something that is just right...you'll know. You'll want cozy, smaller and a bit more modern and you can get all that.

    sorry - so dated.

thanks! to be honest were really bad at picking furniture, color and styles haha.

can someone post some more pictures of furniture that would go well with the space since we most likely will be buying soon so it's ready when we move in :)

    thanks!

Did you want leather or open to other fabrics? Are you ok with a couch or did you want a sectional? If leather, wondering if you like the picture of the couch I provided above with the ottoman to make it cozy to put your feet up? You might want to start looking at pictures on Houzz and save favorites to your ideabook. After a while, you'll see what you are leaning towards. Something else you could do, is go on line and find a room planner, which allows you to add in the features of the room, its size, etc. and then start placing furniture. You may decide on different pieces/sets up you didn't think about previously.

Leather preferred, and ok with a couch. thanks!

Very dated. Also, really not into the built-in cup holders in a sofa. There are many other nicer choices for that price.
That couch is horrid! Do not spend $ on that, get a couch, ottoman and a couple chairs!

If your stuck on a sectional get one with clean lines maybe one from Pottery Barn. I thought the sectional looked dated, I couldn't get past the cup holders! I was debating about putting a sectional in my living room & I'm grateful the people from Houzz talked me out of it.

I would not recommend that piece unless you are putting it in a basement rec room where no one will see it. It really doesn't go with your room.

If you like sectionals look at restoration hardware or room & board.

The 90s called: they want their sectional back.

SOOOOO DATED unless is a rec room, which by the way are also pretty dated too.

. For that price go to Pottery barn, to Wayfair, to Restorarion Hardware plus they all have warehouse sales.

That sectional is gigantic and would eat up your whole room. I would never buy one except for a home theater room. Never for a living room. Once you get it in there you can never do anything else with it. You will be posting design dilemmas cause it is too big. Not to mention spending all that money . Not cheap.

I think the set up they have works well in the room. You could purchase two couches or a couch and a love seat and two single (non matching) chairs, which I would place by the window instead of where they are in your room, with a table inbetween. A mid-range brown leather couch would be really nice and add a great floor lamp, ottoman coffee table if you want to put your feet up, colorful pillows and a throw over the back of one and you will have a more modern room with these different pieces. If purchasing all of this is too much for your budget right now, you could skip the two chairs and place a console table in front of the window with a lamp.

ok so we went to pottery barn and restoration hardware today and looked at the leather sofas. wow, everyone here is right! those were awesome. they were also comfortable as well. i cant believe we even went to leons and were about to buy the sectional haha.

we are going with something sort of the same style in the above photo maureen has posted (thanks again).

we are wondering how big the sofa should be? the living room is 14 X 14 as seen in the original post.

how wide should the sofa be in a 14 X 14 room?

    thanks again!

What are the measurements of the actual spot you want to place a sofa? Will you need room for 2 end tables?

Im not too sure where to place the sofa, I am assuming in the middle where their current sofa is.

im really not too sure how many end tables etc. i have no clue how to design a living room :(.

    sorry...

Im so glad you ditched the Leons and discovered better and nicer furniture stores!

Hi Bee, so happy to hear you're looking at other sectional or sofa options vs. the original one you posted about. We've been on the hunt too....and with PB, we liked how comfy their PB Comfort sectionals were (we liked the ones with square arms).

We also really liked the option with the "wedge" at the corner of the sectional. I think they have a number of sectional styles that offer that wedge which then makes that corner much more usable and comfy.

Regardless if what you choose, measure the space to make sure you have ample space, then measure again. :-)

Also, take a look at Crate and Barrel. They had a few different sectional and sofa collections that were really nice and very comfy for movie watching with the family. Their "Lounge II" is their newer version of the original "Lounge". The original IMO felt almost too deep to be comfortable (46 inches maybe?)

This new version is still a deep sofa but I think about 3 inches less in overall depth.

Just wanted to add that I think one of the most comfy sofas we sat on that also has clean, modern lines is the Taraval at C&B. It's manufactured by Lee Industries too....great quality.....and comes in different configurations.

Anyway, if you have a C&B nearby, you should go check their sofas/sectionals out as well.

Just so you know, the sofa you get from them manufactured by Lee Industries is a not the same quality as a custom sofa directly from Lee Industries.

I just bought a McKinley Genuine leather sofa. It had a tear so I called a professional to repair. He said he goes into so many homes that have what they think is leather...the sales person, claimed it to be! However, what they have is bonded leather! It will NOT hold up over the years, generally. Be cautious, be sure you are getting genuine leather, not bonded!!!!

Way too large for that room. Plus as mentioned on your other thread of same room sectionals just don't have the versatility needed in a chopped up area like yours

schulzbrandy, what you call real leather is called full grain leather (from http://www.saddlebackleather.com/craftsmanship/chpt4)

Full Grain Leather is the best leather money can buy and the only leather good enough for Saddleback. It comes from the top layer of the hide which has ALL of the grain, therefore, FULL grain. The natural surface of full grain leather burnishes and beautifies with use.

Top Grain Leather is the second highest grade because it is split from the top layer of blemished hide then sanded and refinished. This is how they get rid of scars and scrapes and light cow brands. Top grain leather does not age nicely with use. It is strong and durable, but not good enough for Saddleback. They sanded off the strongest fibers of the hide leaving mainly the horizontal (easily pulled apart) fibers.

Genuine Leather is the third grade of leather and is produced from the layers of hide that remain after the top is split off for the better grades. The surface is usually refinished (spray painted) to resemble a higher grade. It can be smooth or rough. Ever heard of suede? Suede is tougher than cloth and is excellent for lining, but it's not a good idea to use it in areas where it gets stress.

Bonded Leather is the PT Cruiser of the leather world... pure junk. Leftover scraps are ground together with glue and resurfaced in a process similar to vinyl manufacture. Bonded leather is weak and degrades quickly with use.

Thank you for the clarification on leather. I used the incorrect term for the top quality leather I was describing. The point is, there is "leather" being sold to unknowing consumers who believe they are buying a piece of furniture that will be durable and last. The bonded leather will NOT, other grades, possibly. I feel sorry for folks who drop thousands on a piece of junk! Do your research! Know what you are buying, it'll save you in the long term!

In regards to your question about width, the couch you like may only come in one width but if you have a choice try out both sizes to see what feels more comfy for you; either size will work. In regards to length, purchase one that can accommodate three people. I would hold off getting your tables, as you may decide to add additional seating. Then consider how the room should function best - ie: square or round coffee table, two side tables or a table/lamp and then a floor lamp on other side, etc. It's a lenghty process but wait to get the right pieces (and for sales). Work with a room planner also, to try out different configurations. Bring pieces home and try them out and return if not quite right. Good luck and enjoy your new home.

thanks for all the awesome suggestions. can you all let me know what you think of this couch for the room. Would this couch work with the room from the original post?

It is the preston leather sofa from urban barn which we really liked.

Here is some more info on it. Is this leather quality good?

The Preston Sofa is quality and luxury all around. Not only does this sofa look great, but it has a wax pull-up finish, giving it extra dimension and character. This sofa will age beautifully with time and use, giving you uncompromised comfort for years to come.

Urban Barn has a good reputation and many companies are using the split leather on non-contact areas. Maybe people will have more info, but I love this couch - it's a classic design that will remain in style for a long time. When decorating around it, think about industrial/farmhouse style. Bring a picture of your couch with you and ask sales people to help if you are unsure. Also, start looking on Houzz for rooms with this type of couch for ideas. Keep it relaxed, use distressed wood, etc. Enjoy!
