Well, I`m a long way away from the heat and humidity of Georgia but I would say why take a chance and take it down and perhaps look into the possibility of planting some native, nectar producing plants that could provide an alternate source of fuel. I have read that they will refuse to use a feeder in a particular location if the nectar has spoiled. In my garden, the hummingbirds consistently prefer the Raspberry Wine monarda over the feeders. I still maintain several through out the yard but their first choice remains the flowers.

That is an EXCELLENT idea. We were afraid that if we took the feeder down between visits we would lose the birds.

There is another thread that discusses the most popular plants to attract hummingbirds to your yard. In addition to nectar sources, hummungbirds need small insects and other tiny creatures to feed their young. So, any plants that attract insects are good for nesting hummers.
