Christmas cactus help needed please!!

I inherited this plant from my uncle, he had it forever. I try not to over water it but lately the leaves are seeming sort of wilty and the soil looks like it's sinking way down in between the plant branches. I'm not sure what to do with it! Does it need a trim? New pot? Should I find a nursery to take it to?
